New "LOST" thread

Sunny - you're too funny. When I have time I will go back to page 45. After I get home from work. Maybe we should have listened to your intuition. What I remember is that TV Guide critic's comment - Michael will be changed. Changed, I can't forget that word! I'd like to go back and find that comment. I'd say he's changed - my God, he turned on the very people he lived with.
The ABC morning news program had the actress who played Ana Lucia on. She said she knew all along her char. would die. The hardest part was not telling her coworkers she was a one season character. So she knew from the get-go, she'd be killed off. They aired a cut scene of Hurley and Libby jogging on the beach, right before she says I'll be back, I have to go do something (get the blankets from the hatch). Hurley won't know what hit him. She didn't say Libby dies but the news anchors said two Lost characters died last night, two!
Garrett - I too was shocked Michael did that, I suspected he was setting up Jack and the group for a trap, for the Others in exchange for Walt's safe return. Then he and Walt would go off alone, with Vincent of course to live their remaining days on the island. I just did not think he'd point blank kill one of them. I'm convinced he didn't mean to shoot Libby.

May 3, 2006: Ana Lucia Is Down for the Count
Wow. Ana Lucia's dead, Libby is lying lifeless on the floor, and Michael shot himself. My personal theory is that Mike took a self-inflicted bullet in the shoulder and is going to try to frame crazy not-Henry. I just can't believe that Michael has become one of the Others. I just can't. Though I guess to save his son, he'd pretty much do just about anything. Poor Libby, she was on her way to a picnic — that's just not right. Though she had a look on her face when Hurley said, "Maybe if I get drunk enough I'll remember where I know you from," that indicated maybe she wasn't looking forward to their little beach rendezvous. What is she, or was she, hiding from the guy who wants to reenact Say Anything in order to woo her?
Also on the wooing — or I guess using front — Sawyer and Ana got it on! Sawyer would have had me at hello, but I guess it was his eloquent "I ain't gonna give me you nothing" that did it for Ana. (Yes, I realize she was probably just distracting him to get the gun, but still.) It is about time someone on this island — besides Sayid and poor now-dead Shannon — had sex. It has been over two months now... odds are it had to happen sooner or later. Just bizarre that the unwed girls on this island that get some action end up dead. See the aforementioned Shannon as an example.
Speaking of unmarried people having sex, what was the deal with Jack's dad and the, I'm guessing, illegitimate daughter? He claimed to be paying that woman's mortgage — where did she come from? Also, why did the Others want Locke, or was that just not-Henry lying again? And does it creep out anyone else to know that the "Man in Charge" of the Others is not forgiving?
Tonight's episode by the numbers:
3:51 - The time on the clock when Ana Lucia woke up in her hotel room
4 - The number of days Ana spent doing nothing in Sydney
99.9 - The radio station on Ana and Jack's dad's car
5:29 - The time on the car radio when Jack turns on the radio
22 - The number of Others living in tents
2 - The number of guards stationed outside the doors of the Others' hatch
18, 1, 31 - The combination to the former armory
1-877-426-7674 - The phone number for the Hanso organization
Speaking of Hanso, just to keep things on the slightly less confusing side, if you want to post about the Interactive Game or the Hanso Foundation, click on this post. It's got some info about the number and the website to get you started.

Ausiello Report
Why Did Lost Kill Ana Lucia? Lindelof/Cuse Tell All!
Before we get to the shocking events of last night's Lost, I have a confession to make: I've known for weeks that Michelle Rodriguez was leaving the show and I said nothing about it in Ask Ausiello. No hints. No spoilers. Not even an asterisk quiz. And you're probably wondering why. Well, it's simple: I knew Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse wanted Ana Lucia's death to be a big surprise to viewers and I wasn't going to be the one to ruin that for them — or you. Plus, I knew if I kept my big trap shut, I'd stand a better chance of getting them to spill the beans about the shocking plot twist before it happened, and then be able to post it to my blog the moment the episode was over. All in all, I think it was a pretty fair trade-off. Oh, and you're probably wondering about the fate of Cynthia Watros' Libby since she too was gunned down by Michael last night. I'll have the full story on that next week. But first, let's get to the bottom of M.Ro's ouster.
Ausiello: Was it always your intention to use Ana Lucia as a one-season character?
Damon Lindelof: A lot of this is going to sound like spin, so all we can give you is our word that this is exactly what happened. Around late February of last year, we started throwing our respective lines in the water to find the leader of the tail section, who we knew was going to be a Latina woman and who would be conceived as a romantic foil for Jack. We wanted her to be in her mid-thirties and be a detective from the LAPD. So we started putting out feelers unofficially because we wanted her to show up in the penultimate episode of last year. That way, when we started our plan for Season 2, it wouldn't feel like we had pulled her out of our asses. So, right around that time...
Carlton Cuse: I got a call from Michelle's agent saying, "Would you guys be interested in Michelle Rodriguez? But she's really only interested in being on the show for a year."
Damon: So we basically said, "A year is not necessarily ideal for us, but let's bring in Michelle and have the meeting." And she came in and met with Carlton and I and then, in the last 15 minutes, J.J. [Abrams] happened to be across the way doing some Alias stuff and he came over and sat down with her and we just hung out with her and chatted. It turned out that she worked in Hawaii on Blue Crush and knew a lot of people down there. But she made it very clear in that meeting that she's sort of a nomadic spirit and she did not want to commit to doing any more than [one season]. She wanted to do one kickass arc, as she described it, and we basically started to wrap our brains around her energy and say, "Yeah, we'll bring you on the show and then we'll kill you off at the end of the year." And she was totally cool with it and we were totally cool with it, and we parted ways and talked amongst ourselves. Obviously, the network and the studio normally don't want to get into a situation where they're not making multiyear deals, but we assured them that this was in fact the plan, and that even if Michelle was a rocking sensation on the show, we were going to stick to the plan. So they signed off on it and made the deal accordingly.
Ausiello: And then the DUI...
Carlton: Then she got this DUI and Damon and I looked at each other and we were like, "Oh, great. Everybody is going to think we're killing her off because she got a DUI." But there really wasn't anything we could do about that. I mean, the story was set. We had made plans. With Lost, we think it out well ahead of when we actually shoot it. We thought about altering our plan, but [this] was in fact what was best for the show. The fact that she got a DUI would come and go and what would live on would be the show, and our plan was still the best plan for the character. Ironically, we actually thought about changing it the other way around once [the DUI] happened, but it really was the best story. We wanted to tell the best story.
Damon: And obviously that decision was further mitigated by the fact that Libby is shot at the same time as Ana Lucia. Basically then we said, "Oh, s--t. Both Michelle and Cynthia were busted the same night for DUI and we've got this story point coming up where they essentially both get shot at the same time, so it's going to look like this is the Lost producers attempt to say, 'Don't drive drunk!'" But as Carlton says, all it created in us was [the thought that], "Maybe we shouldn't do the plan now, 'cause people are going to think this is a reaction to [the DUIs], as opposed to this [plan] existing prior to that event."
Carlton: As you'll see, everything that happens for the rest of the season all sort of falls from this event. And we're not doing ourselves or the fans of the show or the show itself any service by altering those plans because of Michelle's extracurricular activities.
Damon: Not to mention that we didn't even know if that option would be available to us. We were still functioning under the auspices of that meeting, which was Michelle saying, "I want to do a year and then move on."
Ausiello: Did you meet with Michelle to make sure everyone was still on the same page?
Damon: Michelle happened to be [in Los Angeles] and she came by to see us. We basically said to her, "So we’re going to stay on course." And at that point, Michelle was kinda like, "Hey, I'm living in Hawaii...." She might have been able to wrap her brain around [staying] a little bit longer on the show, but she did not say, "I want to stay on the show!" She was basically like, "Yeah. That's a good plan."
Carlton: And once we told her what was happening, she was incredibly supportive. She thought it was sort of a kickass way to go, and she got very on board with the idea of how she was going to be exiting the show.
Ausiello: Rumor has it she was a hard-ass on the set and everyone hated her. Care to set the record straight?
Damon: We're not in Hawaii on the set so all we can speak to is our working relationship with Michelle and what we have heard from the other actors and directors on the show, and we never heard anything remotely resembling that she was a hard-ass. You know, she's Michelle. She's got a very playful spirit. But she's totally professional and got along well with all the other actors. We get calls over the course of our career about difficult actors. We did not get those calls about Michelle.

I know its been a while since I posted in this thread but I just watched the show last night, and OMG. I thought it was a great show before the ending, but lordy that end just blew my mind. At first I thought well Micheal is an Other now, but then he shot himself, so now I am thinking he is just loopy, or they programed his mind somehow. At least Sawyer got him some before Micheal shot her, lol. That was hot.
Now I guess Henry is loose, or does Jack, and the others come in right when he is making his escape? Hmm. What Henry told Loche was a bit erie too. This whole show just took a new twist, and I like it. Although I wish they would have let Libby live.
Can''t wait till next episode.

If anyone finds out anything about Libby, please please please let me know. I am on pins and needles. Sad, isn't? My LOST addiction is just as bad as my addiction to s2k and jsquared.

Garrett - if I read anything, you'll be the first to know. My instincts are telling me Libby will survive but Ana Lucia is definitely gone. Michelle Rodriguez was interviewed on the ABC morning news show the next day. She confirmed it, her character died.
TV Guide has a Games page and it changes weekly. The weekly poll asks: Who's sexier: Kiefer Sutherland or Matthew Fox? You won't believe this but Sutherland is kicking Fox's butt, 83% to 16%. OMG, that is soooo not right. I threw a vote in for "Jack"! I might just keep on voting. LOL!

I just watched that episode because I moved this week but, OMG that was insane. I don't even know what to think now. Michael has gone whacko but, how did he think killing people will make it right in order to get his son. Jack and Locke are on thier way back to the hatch but, I think michael is going to give mr. not-henry the gun and let him run. I don't think the instructions from the man above on the island told him to kill libby also. Yes Michael is going to get ratted out by libby. But, that was totally insane.

OH MY GOSH!!
I was on my cruise and just watched LOST last night. Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!
I didn't trust Michael from the get-go. I could just tell something wasn't right, but I didn't expect THAT! I thought he was probably setting them up when he was talking about how unarmed they were, etc. I figured they got to him, which clearly they did. But when Ana Lucia gave him the gun, I was saying "no no no no no" but even then, I didn't expect him to kill her! I figured he would release fake Henry and just threaten her with the gun if she tried to stop him. And then Libby! Oh dear, my jaw was on the ground at the end of the episode! I hope Libby makes it, for Hurley and Garrett.
I hope Jack and gang get back before fake Henry gets away, but I doubt it. I think he'll get away, Libby will be out of it, and then there's poor ol Michael who tried to stop him and got shot in the arm. He'll continue to give them bad info and get away with it because Libby won't be able to talk, at least in time to stop them from trying to take them on.
Wow, just wow.

Oh Kelly - you're a few days behind the rest of us or almost a week!
I had the same reaction you did. I didn't trust Michael either and when Ana Lucia handed him the gun I said outloud - no, no, no! I too didn't expect him to just point blank shoot her! Poor Libby. Note to our Flight 815 peeps, if you hear gunshots, don't go toward them, run, run far away! She even said - Michael? Before crumbling to the floor. She befriended him before Ana Lucia did before the middies and tailies reunited. You could see the utter shock on her face.
I'm pulling for her to make it too. For Hurley and Garrett too - that was cute that you added Garrett!
My daughter Laura and I were so shocked last week. We could not go to sleep after that episode aired. And of course I went to the Lost boards. She took her shower and came out later to ask what fans were saying already......
We talked about it for a few days more to be honest. All one of us had to say was - Michael and the other would say, can you believe it?

Man, oh man that sunny chick just doesn't quit does she? LOL
Yes Cindy we should have listened to you!!!! We will from now on. I promise!!!
I was reading an article about the actor who plays Michael. Just before last week's episode aired he called family back home in the Mainland. He said he couldn't tell them what the episode was about but it's shocking. He just wanted them to be prepared because viewers would maybe turn on him. And it wouldn't be nice. Something like that......I'd say so!
He was one of the survivors and now he's an other! Dang it to all you know what.

Mary - we are so alike at times. I watched it again, fast forwarding over the flashback scenes. I wish so much this Michael wouldn't be Michael and be a disguise - they do have theatrical props, makeup, etc. But that lisp - it's all Michael. So I know it's him.
Afterwards I swear I thought of Dallas - could this be all a dream? LOL Jack would come walking out of the shower, wearing only a towel, heart be still....he he....and say I had the craziest dream!
Somewhere I was reading a fan's take on Michael going postal on us. Saying when did he call Locke by his first name? It was always Locke.
Well anyway hopefully we'll get a few answers.
In Michael's defense, he did cry. Those tears helped a little. Listen to us, talking about these people as if they're real! LOL
I actually like a break without shows over the summer. Getting a chance to do other things. I'm just never really ready for a season to be over though.

Question: Please tell me about Libby's fate on Lost! — AJ
Ausiello: Good things come to those who wait… until immediately after tonight's episode. That's when I'll tackle all things Libby-related (with the assistance of Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse) in my Ausiello Report blog. Just like last week, it's not to be missed — the episode or the blog posting.
Question: Thank you so much for not spoiling Ana Lucia's death on Lost. I like hint-and-nugget spoilers, but not the big ones. Speaking of nuggets, did Damon and Carlton give you any for the final few episodes? — Myra
Question: Is it just me, or does sex = death on Lost? I mean, first Shannon and now Ana Lucia. Are they trying to send us a message? — Ali
Ausiello: I don't know why everyone is so surprised about this. When I spoke to Carlton Cuse in December, he said point-blank, "If you have sex on the show, you're pretty much going to end up dead." Get with the program, people.

Lost[New]
9 pm/ET, ABC
The Lost bloodletting has begun, and don't expect it to end with Ana Lucia (RIP) and Libby (?). But it is cathartic and, as exec producer Carlton Cuse told Michael Ausiello, "everything that happens for the rest of the season all sort of falls" from Ana Lucia's death. So expect dominoes to begin to fall (or at least totter) tonight as Jack goes on the warpath, Locke discovers something about the hatch map, Kate edges closer to Sawyer, and Eko and others face new tests. — Paul Droesch

Exclusive: Lost Star's First Post-jail Q&A
by Shawna Malcom
Talk about a rough couple of weeks. On April 25 Michelle Rodriguez — who was slapped with a DUI in Hawaii in December — opted to go to jail rather than perform 240 hours of community service. (She was released after serving four days of her five-day sentence.) Then, on May 3, her Lost alter ego, ex-cop Ana Lucia, was gunned down by Michael in a where-did-that-come-from twist. Just days after getting sprung from jail, the free-spirited Rodriguez called TV Guide to spill on leaving ABC's hit series and doing time.
TV Guide: Producers swear to me that the only way you'd sign on to Lost was if they agreed it was just for a year. True?
Michelle Rodriguez: Yeah, that was the deal from the beginning.
TV Guide: Why?
Rodriguez: The biggest fear for me is being in one place for too long. I'm a gypsy. If I stay somewhere too long, it's trouble, as you can see from what happened. [Laughs] And for what I want to do in my career... it'll be harder for me to get an independent film. Artsy-fartsy directors don't want to work with a famous TV actress. They want somebody who's not in the limelight all the time.
TV Guide: How did you feel when you read the script in which Ana Lucia dies?
Rodriguez: Well, the boys [executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse] kept their promise — they made sure I went out with a bang. But it was pretty wild. Every time I go to Hawaii, I have a spiritual experience. That place is just amazing. I got into tip-top shape, I stopped smoking, and then — boom! Time to go.
TV Guide: So you had started having second thoughts about leaving?
Rodriguez: Yeah. That's exactly what happened. Story of my life!
TV Guide: Did the cast offer support?
Rodriguez: Oh, we partied our butts off! We had so much fun. I didn't know Josh [Holloway, who plays Sawyer] could play the guitar the way he does. He's got a good voice on him, too. Hey, I'm here to play. And learn. Life's a big, giant school. I could be staring down the barrel of a gun and I'm like, "Oh, I wonder what I'm supposed to learn from this." [Laughs]
TV Guide: And what did you learn from your arrest?
Rodriguez: It was stupid to drive [drunk]. But it's something I did because — I honestly believe — I was agitated from the steroids. [Rodriguez had been taking steroids for allergies since arriving in Hawaii.] And I did a lot of stupid stuff that didn't involve just drinking. I was very "energetic" — put it that way. [Laughs] That's a big lesson: Think twice before taking your steroids!
TV Guide: A lot of fans didn't like Ana Lucia. Did that surprise you?
Rodriguez: Not at all. When producers [decided to have Ana Lucia kill Shannon], I was like, "What are you doing? They're gonna hate me!" But in the middle of the season, the fan mail started to pour in and it was all positive. People were like,"OK, you're not such a mean lady. Can I have your autograph?"
TV Guide: Did you opt for jail because you knew you wouldn't be sticking around Hawaii long enough to do all that community service?
Rodriguez: That's a decision I would've made even if I did have to be back on the show.
TV Guide: Why?
Rodriguez: Because if I'm gonna do something for the community, I need to do that on my own accord. I don't like being told to do things for the community. I'd rather be in jail for a few days than be told what to do for a month.
TV Guide: What was jail like?
Rodriguez: It was so cool! [Laughs] I love people, and it was a primal crew. The only thing that keeps them going is fighting for salt and making dice out of soap. It was an amazing experience. I wouldn't take it back for anything.
TV Guide: Weren't you even a little scared?
Rodriguez: At the end of my day, I have a really good belief in destiny. It's, like, if I'm gonna be killed in there, I'm gonna be killed in there. But people were cool. I represent the people, you know what I mean? If somebody picks on me, they'll get what's coming.
TV Guide: Did somebody pick on you?
Rodriguez: I didn't have to handle myself is what I'm saying. I had love in there. People got where I'm coming from.
TV Guide: How did you spend your time?
Rodriguez: Drawing pictures for everybody on their shirts. Writing poetry. And singing show tunes with the girls. [Sings] "It's a hard-knock life... for us." I'm not surprised they kicked me out early. [Laughs]
TV Guide: You were having too much fun?
Rodriguez: Yeah.
TV Guide: So, you're out of jail and out of a job. What now?
Rodriguez: I'm going to start a clothing line. I thought it'd be a good idea because I can't rely on a paycheck from Hollywood. I don't want to have to do some sci-fi movie that I think is really awful. I'm tired of that. So I'm gonna go make my own money and then decide whether I want to do something in Hollywood, instead of doing it because I need to.
