I've been stocking up, too. I've got plenty of flashlights and several batteries, with no plans on stopping. We are planning to get more batteries quickly, as well as at least a few gas tanks. We also have already bought a small portable stove/grill, and we are going to get plenty of water very soon. I am not taking ANY chances this year - or any year from now on!

This really IS a great idea. I've been picking up a can of something or other every couple of days for awhile now and refreshed all the water containers, but it wouldn't hurt to pick up some easy to use gallon bottles (everything else is five gallon containers). Next is to bite the bullet and have Rajellio <sp>, (the only person on the island who sells propane, we are hostages to him and whatever he charges!) put in a big propane tank so I can not worry about having three small ones full all the time.
It is also the countdown to the Kentucky Derby, which I DO want to see happen

Hurricane season is getting closer
The more I think about it the more I think we may need a hurricane or two hopefully at low CAT at least with a lot of rain in Florida b/c fires are becoming a big problem and we're not getting any rain, Brevard County NE of Orlando is in a blaze right now, and no Beneficial rain is in forecast, sure 20% of rain but with lightning

A tropical system can take care of this problem

It has been REALLY hot in my area and quite dry many times. Good thing ridging is a bit weaker than it has been in past months and is now slightly less persistent; unfortunately, the ridging we have now is more at the surface (a classic heating dry ridge), which can enhance the wildfire threat at times with hot, dry conditions and light, variable winds. Good thing it can also be less harsh on thunderstorms, allowing them to pop up.

O BOY! Smoke and ash is in my area nothing too bad but this could be a bad sign, and the 20% chance of rain we were expecting is now at 0% chance of rain
My grass is also turning brown.
It is funny though I remember people were saying "This is the Sunshine State?" because everyday it would rain and we had flooding problems, well this year is good name for Sunshine State since we have no rain.
