According to a recent survey, one in every three adults in America has lied to his or her partner about their spending habits.
Since 41 percent of women are in charge of the household, experts say women are more likely to hide their spending habits.
"[You] just put it in the closet and pretend that you didn't buy it," said shopper Jill Lawson. "Oh honey, I've had that forever. It works good."
Tommie and Eunice Wright said they love shopping together with their two young sons.
"Now see, this is my thing," said Tommie Wright while perusing through the mall. "I'm a shoe person."
But even the Wright family said they admit they have argued over sneaky spending during their eight years of marriage.
"Sometimes it gets kind of a little out of hand," Wright said.
But his wife said they have worked to change that.
"We've gotten a whole lot better," she said.
But for those who haven't been able to tackle the problem, it sometimes can escalate into a matter of until debt do us part.
Six years ago, nearly 90,000 marriages in Texas ended in courtrooms. Since then, that number has increased and research shows finances have been the main reason.
"When one spouse has lied to the other one and has in fact caused the difficulty, not only is there the debt, but now there is a feeling of being betrayed by this person," said Shannon Wolf, marriage counselor.
Many couples have opted for separate bank and credit accounts also, which create more opportunities to deceive their partners.

Yes, money causes a lot of problems. You need to set up a budget or plan before you get married so each understands what your goals are.
In this world today, worse than ever, everyone has to keep up with the Jones.
People expect a new house and car right away and figure if both work, they can make payments. Along comes new clothes, vacations, new furniture, and kids. Now we have a problem, not enough for payments.
We are a spoiled country and if it doesn't work, we will move on and find a new partner that has a little more money.
