He don't think he actually "hears voices." Most of the time, when someone says they "hear" the Lord (or whoever it is to whom they are praying), what they "hear" is sort of what they "feel" when they pray. "Feel" probably isn't even the right word.

But that's the thing about faith -- it's believing in something you can't see...or hear...or put your finger on. A lot of people, regardless of what religion or faith they are, "hear" in that way when they pray. They're not hearing God actually talk to them. What they're getting is that inner spiritual guidance, peace, and comfort. Their faith guides them and provides the answers or path on which to travel. At least, that's the best way I can describe it.

Then again, there are those who make false claims in the name of their god or in the name of their religion. We see it all the time - cults, religious extremists, some televangelists. They do it for their own benefit. To quote Amy Grant, "ya gotta know who to, who not to listen to."

Yes, and I think that is the comfort of praying. I think when people pray hard over an issue, when they are done, it may give them time to think or change their mind. I think praying is a comfort or time out. It always has helped me.

God works in mysterious ways, and for any mortal human being to claim they know what God is thinking is insulting to God, IMO.

As a Christian I have a difficult time believing that God purposely destroyed areas of the coast. I also have a problem with someone who says that they should assininate such and such.

Now that God might had come to him in prayer and said that the US Coast will be hit by hurricanes I believe but not because God is planing revenge on us. The God I believe in doesn't wreck havoc on people but is there with them during the storms and the aftermath.

Oral Roberts once said God would "take him" if he didn't raise umpteen millions of dollars.... guess when he fell short the Lord changed His mind... these charlatans need to stick to the business of ministry and leave prognostication to weather forecasters... Robertson's fallen over the edge IMHO.

Actually, he was ALREADY way over the edge LONG before he just said this. He ALWAYS has been over the edge.

The thing that really amazes me is that after all the outlandish predictions that are made don't come through, people still believe in these "men of God".

Back in 1999, when all the hype about the Y2K Bug was the order of the day, a so called prophet visited Barbados where, as the invited guest speaker at a special church service, he predicted all kinds of terrible things that would happen to the world in 2000 as computer systems went haywire. My sisters attended attended that service and they both wholeheartedly believed everything he said.

Fast forward to 2006:

EXCELLENT point... I know all "politics" is local... but when I see some of the folks they keep putting in office, I seriously wonder about the "locals".
