Interesting Cold-Frontal Flare Up Just North of Hispaniola

#1 Postby Tampa Bay Hurricane » Thu May 18, 2006 10:16 pm

Along a dying cold front, an interesting flare-up. A ball of convection
has fired up just north of Hispaniola.

That's Hispaniola, not Puerto Rico.

Not expecting any development, but I think that SST's are marginal around 80 F, but the shear is very high along that front. Unless the front diminishes and leaves behind a remnant low that may intensify under lessenening shear and better conditions, development is highly unlikely. But this is an interesting feature none-the-less.

West Atlantic Infared Image

Those blobwatchers who like to look at blobs check this now North of Hispanola and Puerto Rico before it goes. :)

No, it isn't. It's very obvious on the imagery that it's NOT going towards the Gulf of Mexico.

Loop

:uarrow: :uarrow:

The upper flow is from SW to NE so it's not moving towards the GOM.

Look more carefully at the loop cycloneye posted. It is associated with a cold front, so it is NOT moving towards the Gulf of Mexico. Look at the broader picture. Thanks.

ok... i see now.... i was looking at the WV loop.
that's good news. We really don't need anything showing up
in the GOM right now... We need a good long break here...
Like 15 to 20 years kind of break!

There is no way possible these thunderstorms are moving toward the GOM. Cycloneye's link proves it. Plus, even by some small miracle, this little ball of convection would go against all odds and nature, and move westward, they're only thunderstorms. It happens almost daily in the tropics.

I agree, especially since it is under high shear and is associated with a moving cold front.

I agree Camille_2_Katrina, we need a longer break than that. No storms any time soon, please!

O NO LOOK OUT THE BLOB IS HEADING STRAIGHT FOR US (TAMPA)

Chances of devolpment on this is about 3% and no way is this moving to the GOM. Looks interesting though.
