More Accuweather rubbish. The local paper here on the coast ran the same article. Since we are in a moderate risk area compared to say the EC which Accuweather says has a very high risk, people are letting their guard down. This is journalistic sensationlism at its best......MGC

I just don't understand how people can make these predictions so early. Yes, everyone should be prepared, but to tell some certain area that they are ripe, drives me crazy. The season has not even started yet.

Sure everyone will get their due hurricane, but only Mother Nature knows that. And when the hurricane season does start, the pros will be able to give us informative data, etc.

yes it is and we normally have very little warning before we get hit since they tend to move quickly up the coast faster then they do in the gulf!

While it's good that media is doing this blitz to educate us here in the northeast, since our last big hurricane was Bob in 1991, and last major was in the 40s and the 1938 storm, it's completely irresponsible to say "you're going to get hit this year." Could happen, might not until 2012.

Janice, if last year taught us anything Mother Nature holds the cards. Not even the pros could have predicted what happened last year. All I can say is grab the popcorn, grab a seat, get comfy, becuase the show is about to start soon. Oh, and please do not talk during the show and turn your cellphones off.

Really honestly the media should be focusing on everyone preparing for hurricane season and not just a couple of paticular areas. For real guys... what sense does it make to tell people that an area is "High Risk" and another area "Low Risk". This is probably giving the average person that does not know much about hurricanes a false sense of security and another area unecessary worries. I think that hurricane preparedness should be stressed and not risk areas. What if an area is labled as a low risk area and then a major hurricane strikes that area and many people didn't prepare because in the back of thier minds they read an article from a private weather company that has meteorologists on staff doing predictions. I know that I have a friend that told me he was in St. Augustine and people were telling them that for some reason that area can't get a hurricane. Now if people whole hearted believe something that is total rumor then what is going to happen if "Meteorologists" begin forcasting higher risk areas than others. We all know that even if you hear something that is actually a not a factual statement, you are told over and over again people actually believe that it is true.

Bottom line is that, this is a very large error on the part of a certain private company in order to boost ratings and increase subscriptions.

That article could be written about any area along the coastal U.S from Texas to Maine and have some credibility. So, it sounds like sensationalism to me. In reality, you could say many areas of the U.S. from Southern Texas to Maine are ripe for a hurricane because they haven't experienced one in quite some time, but that doesn't mean it is going to happen this year. Steering currents and timing will be the ultimate factor in determining if it does.
