NO's Republicans Stage Late Rally and Get Nagin In Office!

#1 Postby Sean in New Orleans » Sat May 20, 2006 10:52 pm

There was a late surge in the last 5 days by the wealthiest Republicans in New Orleans to get their man, Ray Nagin in office, and he won tonight in a close election against the Liberal Democrat, Mitch Landrieu. The poorest blacks of New Orleans' best friend lost the election and with the win of Nagin, we can be assured that public housing projects will be demolished and newer, upscale living will prevail. Hopefully, this will address the crime issue, which it should. A very interesting and close election...now it is time for New Orleans to move forward and rebuild this great city. We are up to the task and be watching us in the future...New Orleans is on the way back and it will be bigger and better than ever. Hang tight...the construction boom we've all anticipated is just around the corner!

No comment on the politics involved, however I sincerely hope the city makes the much desired "comeback"...but rest assured, it won't be easy!

Agreed, but, the options are only one. We have to come back, and we will. Most of New Orleans and St. Bernard has more to clean-up than places like Uptown, and a majority of Jefferson Parish, and St. Tammany. Where there is more trash to clean-up it simply takes longer. But, it's being picked up and the pieces are being put back together. It's going to take a couple of years, though....

Yes it will. I was glad to hear that folks in my old neighborhood (Holy Cross) are already busily putting things back together. Folks in my old haunting grounds (Chalmette) have a MUCH tougher job. For all intents and purposes, that whole area has been utterly devastated.

It is ... unfortunate that I cannot say what I would rather say here due to some of the R&R's that this forum has, but what I am allowed to say is this: I hope that he is the right man for the job. That is all I can say without being banned. :grr:

If you are conservative and Republican he's your man. If you are a liberal Democrat, then it's your loss and it's time to fixate on the next election because this one is over.

If Ray gets back to the mayor we all knew and loved before the storm, New Orleans will be in good hands.

Look, like it or not, the man did what he had to do to get re-elected. I don't like what he had to do to achieve this either. But I suspect neither does he.

Glad to see the Landrieu dynasty derailed. It is about time Louisiana elected people based on their ability to lead rather than their last name. This is quite evident in the recovery to date. Mississippi is progressing well with talented leaders such as Babour, Lott and Cochran. Louisiana on the other hand is laging behind because of its elected officials, Blanco and Mary Landrieu.....MGC

This may come as a surprise to everyone.......Nagin is a bi-partisan Democrat. He calls himself a lifelong democrat although alot of us know he was at one time a republican.

There is bad, and there is worse... eye of the beholder... Perhaps a "Thumper" moment would have been more appropriate here.

It's interesting to see how many far-left Democrats are on the board.

Me too, A2K. Such a sweet film.

I never saw this race as Repub vs. Dem so I'm always surprised at media pieces that are all "REPBULICANS SCORE!" "DEMOCRATS BAND TOGETHER AGAINST NAGIN!"

Same here; but both were democrats anyway... I just wasn't crazy about what I perceived as a jump at opportunism by ahem...some folks; my first choice, Couhig, was eliminated in the primary.
