So here's to hoping we prepare for a non-landfall season..but the cards just don't look like they will pan that way.

Hurricane Season brings uneasy feelings in FL
I find it so funny that before Andrew, everyone thought that it would turn and it ravenged South FL back in '92. Now, after the last 2 seasons where we have been hit 8 times in 2 years.. its the exact opposite. Alot feel that the storms are all coming, and its almost paranoia (though hopefully it leads to better preparation.)

Hey, you never know. We could have a year of nothing out there. All big canes just go out to sea. We have had really mild years when no US state or terrority got hit.
Let's pray mother nature does her thing this year and leaves our homeland alone.
Mother nature just sits back and listens to our predictions and says "Oh, maybe I will and maybe I won't".
Let's hope she doesn't this year.

I'd say you're right on the mark. You can also safely assume that those of us that live about 100 miles inland are having uneasy feelings with hurricane season quickly approaching

I'm in Tampa... Not likely to get a direct hit here however, I do prepare early... I am ready now.. This is the time to get everything. My mother just moved down from North Carolina and proudly I took a huge grey tote with everything she could possibly need to survive a cane. I make them for alot of people. I think it is just people don't want to take the time to get what they need now... And alot is that they don't believe anything could ever happen to them.

I buy a huge grey tote. 54 Gal - they come in Grey and Blue (at least around here) I have 1 for each member of my family. Contents: 1 First aid kit (small), 1 vitamin/pill case loaded for 7 days with meds (I have a diabetic in my family so 1 insulin vile, I put blood pressure pills and other meds plus vitamins) 1 blanket, 1 mini pillow, 3 pairs of socks, underware, shorts/pants, t-shirt, 1 wind breaker jacket, 1 case of water, 1 case of campbells chicken soup, 3 tubes of crackers, 1 package fruit roll ups, 1 package of pop tarts, 1 pack of sugar cubes, 1 multi pack of plastic dinner wear, 1 package of emergency candles, 2 packs of water proof matches, 1 camping light (battery), 1 mini sterno cooktop ( they are small for camping and safe!) 1 flashlight, 1 pack of batteries, 1 whislte, 1 small box of granual bleach, 1 small soap, 1 towel, 1 tooth brush, 1 tooth paste, 1 roll of duck tape, 1 tarp and 1 book to keep your memory fresh in the even of something happening.
I put coffee in mine! If I don't use these all season I just take out the things that can go bad and re-load. These totes are big so you can put alot in them. I have ours on Rollers.

I am very uneasy. I tried to get my wooden house remodeled and up for sale and sold before now and we are STILL working on the remodel. I wanted OUT OF HERE. I need to unload this freaking house.
I love tracking the canes, and I find weather absolutly fascinating. BUT, I am all done now. I don't want to lose everything. I didn't like roughing it for 3 days. I didn't like hunkering down in my friends concrete block home, while I wondered if mine was still standing. I don't like it, Sam I am.
I want to be gone. Gone from this madness and somewhere where the worst will be a Tropical gust of 50 miles an hour, or some snow to shovel. North Georgia is where I am going, if I can ever get out of here.

My bigger concern is for the sake of Insurance. Jeb Bush has gone on record (and pretty much speaking what we all feel) that another devastating storm and ALL the insurance companies may pull out of Florida. It's difficult to imagine, but Insurance is not mandated, so as such, we could be in for a world of hurt without the insurance companies. It speaks volumes when the Insurer of last resort, Citizens, is now the #1 Insurer in the state of florida.
I am thankful I have a grandfathered State Farm Policy.. so its the first bill I always pay every month to ensure coverage, but even those rates are going up.

tqenius.. I'm with you! It is a huge problem.. Most Floridians can't afford the insurance anymore so they aren't even getting it. I know if you finance a house and you don't have proof of insurance the mortgage company adds it for you.. I just don't know what that covers. I am sure it is probably much mores expensive. Something should be done. We can afford our homes but can't afford to insure them.
