Any hurricanes or TS ever hit florida west coast in June....

#1 Postby Noah » Tue May 23, 2006 8:07 am

Or July?? My husband is traveling over seas for 3 weeks during mid june to early july.. He was going to go later in the season, but i was too concerned over the higher chances of hurricanes in mid to late season. I guess i could be way off, as they can come any time.

I know there are alot of people on here that know the history of florida hurricanes. :D

I am on the west coast.

Dennis hit the panhandle near Navarre, not the west coast.

Yeah, the tampa area (as well as much of the west coast) did see TS force winds from Dennis. I was in Orlando during Dennis, and even that far inland/east we had gusts into the lower 40s.

I don't know if FL west coast hits are all that infrequent, actually. Maybe from Sarasota north to the Big Bend, perhaps......but I'm not sure you could make a case for Sarasota south being hit infrequently.

Hurricane Allison hit the Panhandle in June 1995. It was also hit by Hurricane Agnes in June 1972 . There have been early season Subtropical Storms in 1974, 1976, and 1982. Also, there have been one or two in July. I'm sure if you went back farther you could find more, but regardless, W FL's odds of having an evacuation level event in June or early July is extremely low. Once you get to August through October, that's another story.
