the statement was about making sacrifices for those in need...

but i should know better than to answer a rhetorical question around here, especially since the judgement has already been made.

Wasn't rhetorical at all alicia. Thanks for answering

You are right about the judgement though. Im sure most here passed judgement on her long before this. Including myself. Its a shame though cause back in the day I use to think she was great

I didn't read the article because I don't care enough to. I just saw the picture and whatever the reason, she still looks like a fool up there, so I laughed. And the 2 songs I mentioned her singing up there are songs by her. :P

Like Chad, I used to like her, but I don't anymore. She's gone way downhill since the Borderline, Lucky Star and Material Girl days, IMO.

And I'm still left wondering how a poor Italian chick from Brooklyn developed an English accent.

Neat picture, but she cheated by standing on a platform. If she really wants to make a statement, I'd like to see her match the philanthropic efforts of Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey.

Only in America. I doubt she would get away with that in most other countries.

She has every right to do what she did... But why would she want to, it was stupid :/ It's like a really bad attempt at causing a 'religious shock'. And instead it reveals that she is quite desperate to gain fans, by trying to show off how "bad-ass" she can be... not very, is the result!

Just as an aside, Madonna was NOT born in Brooklyn but rather in Michigan (in the Detroit vicinity I believe).

She has done this before, wearing clothing of nuns in videos. Her bazaar behavior is her money maker.

She has a severe fetish and that is to "Shock The World"

Who cares. Her music was good. I thought at one point she was cleaning up her act.
But I think this stunt she just did went over the top.

She doesnt live in America.

I know lots of people who have moved to foreign countries and picked up the accents there.

What is amusing about the whole situation is how easily Madonna can play certain groups into getting all riled up generating the controversy she uses to her advantage-she is very shrewd at doing that. Her recent stunt obviously being a way to needle Christian Fundamentlists (or maybe just the Christians in general) about their beliefs regarding various groups whilst point out the very real issue of world poverty where the energies of real Chrisitans would be best put to use in eliminating.

That's a valid point--perhaps she could set an example and give a few million of her bucks to the cause as well... maybe even really shock the world and give it all to help the cause...

Anyway... more power to her in a free society... but definitely not my gig.

Catholic League blasts Madonna's concert crucifixion

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — Less than 12 hours after Madonna crucified herself on a mirrored cross, the Catholic League expressed its discontent with the concert stunt.

The controversial diva wore a crown of thorns and sang while hanging from a cross during Sunday night's opener of her "Confessions" world tour at The Forum in Inglewood.

"Knock off the Christ-bashing," Catholic League president Bill Donohue said in a statement Monday. "It's just pathetic."

Though Donohue said that Madonna "has been spicing up her act with misappropriated Christian imagery for a long time," he thought that her faith in Kabbalah might inspire new respect for religion.

"I guess you really can't teach an old pop star new tricks," he said. "Poor Madonna keeps trying to shock. But all she succeeds in doing is coming across as a boring bigot."
