Every woman should be a role model for girls, just like our mothers... :bday:

I didn't say Madonna is a role model, I said "where are the role models".

Her antics probably accomplished exactly what she wanted. You noticed. I would tend to think these artists have to try absurd new ideas to get noticed in todays music world with there being so many artists out there. She's had an unbelievably long career and is still going. It seems today that there are just one hit wonders from the younger musical generation.

Oh, I think there is bazaar behavior in all industries... look at sports figures who dye their hair bright orange, wear a wedding dress for publicity stunts, Super Bowl antics, etc. I think the rich and famous can get away with a lot of it. Just keeps their popularity up.

If one doesn't like Madonna's behaviour, the best thing to do is ignore her. Making a big public stink about her actions just increases her CD sales. I like to think of it as the "As Nasty as they Wanna Be" effect

I did like Madonna many years ago..not anymore. Being of Italian descent myself I find her an embarrasment; she will stop at nothing to gain publicity. That cross stunt is an insult to Christians everywhere. :x

Maybe it's just me, but I don't equate a has-been 80's star hanging on a cross as an insult to my faith anymore than seeing Renee O'Connor and Lucy Lawless being crucified as Gabrielle and Xena. Of course, I know for the latter, it was because their characters were being punished by Romans, back when crucifixion was one of the more common forms of execution, so it was done in a completely different context. However, Madonna isn't the only one to voluntarily hang from a cross. Lots of people do it in the Phillipines and Mexico City during ceremonies for Holy Week. Crucifixion is still used as punishment by Muslims and is talked about in the Quran also. So, it's not just a Christian thing. But for us Christians, there is no doubt, it is a highly symbolic depiction.

However, I don't think she was mocking Jesus or Christians at all. She was trying to shock people just for the sake of shocking us. As for me, she failed. Her antics lack talent and I choose to ignore her message.
