Beaumont/Houston: Flood Watch, Training Storms

#1 Postby HouTXmetro » Mon May 29, 2006 9:06 am

It's been storming in Beaumont ALL night and has not stopped yet. Does anybody have any reports of flooding? I'm having Allison flashbacks.

Heavy rain over my home is Southeast Houston, but it's starting train and build to the SW. I get a lil nervous anytime the rain starts training.

Actually, yes! According to local news sites there is a lot of street flooding and as of 7:45 this morning most major underpasses in Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange have several feet of standing water. Water is also moving into homes in some areas. I took a screenshot of the KFDM Instaweather in the middle of the night. Check out the rain rate.
It's still pouring down here in Beaumont with no end in sight.

Screenshot

BTW, that 4.63" is now going on 13" of rain since midnight.

OMG, that rainrate is like what we were having during Allison!!!! We have floodingin in N and NE Houston now, but we haven't gotten that much rain. Some areas in houston are closing in on 8" since early this morning though. Most of that is to the N and Ne areas of Houston, which is more towards the Beaumont area.

Welcome to Storm2k rainshine!!!! I breifly lost power during the storm. I hope you are staying safe over there in Beaumont. I'm aware that you guys have been getting pounded all night! The rain has just began here in SE Houston but I'm watching the radar and it appears to be training. This is starting to remind me of Allison 2001. I hope it stops soon.

Unfortunately the ULL that is helping all this rain happen is not expected to move much over the next few days. although we need the rain, we don't need it like this!!!

This is just like a Tropical Storm. Weak mid level low over east Texas and you have you flooding rains develop at night and early mornings. Rain totals as of 9:45 AM.....Beaumont..12.25"/ Winnie 13.78"/ Vidor 8.00"/ Orange 5.25" Usually in an event like this you'll see a break in the rain in the afternoon and early at night before it redevelops again after midnight. Could see a repeat tonight as mid level low not forecasted to move out until Wednesday.

Pretty intense rains in Houston. Since I am currently in Florida I am missing it, but I am glad you guys are getting it! we needed this rain! Looking at the NWS forecast, rain looks to be in the forecast for the next 7 days in Houston.

I noticed last night the training setting up and some of those areas are still getting rain. Please send some east, we only had some showers yesterday and we're still suffering from the drought!

The same setup is likely tonight. The big question is exactly where?

I think it will be further east. If it is to occur in the same areas the atmosphere will have to recover quite significantly.

Sun out over houston, plenty of time to recover. Beaumont is still getting it though. :(

 We have Sunny skies and 80 degrees now in Beaumont. I think it will be later than last night on storms developing due to large complex in Gulf moving East. We should have enough time to recover.

The offshore system is now backbuilding to the north, towards Houston.

Yup! More rain on the way here. Hopefully not near the totals we had earlier. Winnie TX west of Beaumont had 17" since 1 AM...More than they had with Rita and Allison.
