Oh no... how sad. They are only trying to bring us the news.

But then we wouldn't know what was really happening on the ground. Do you think it's important that the public knows what is happening in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc? And isn't it good to have a unbiased view.
No matter what administration or party is in power, I think it's very dangerous if the only news that comes out of war zones is that which the Pentagon wants revealed through pentagon press conferences, etc.

I'm of the school that the media isn't over there to tell the truth. They're there for ratings. It's ratings over safety.

Yes, very unbiased (cough cough). You'll note the lack of bias in all of the stories that focus on our own casualties and never tell how many terrorists have been killed. Also lacking bias is the PC-name "insurgents" being given to the cowards who hide and use bombs, killing civilians as they dine, shop and even as they pray. Finally, no bias in all of those stories crying about those poor lil' terrorists captured by the US - how rough they have it in prison. Imagine the nerve of all of those returning vets, when they ask about why the news doesn't cover the vast number of positive things that are going on in Iraq! You know - children getting vaccinations, people getting more and better water and electricity - oh, and people not being tortured and killed on a whim by a murdering madman and his mad dog sons! And it's refreshing how we are not reminded of the incidents in which the terrorists bravely sawed-off the heads of their bound, screaming captives. Yep - an unbiased view is great!

And to nip it in the bud - My post is just "as" or "not" political as that which I quote. My boss did nine months in Iraq, patrolling daily after being amongst the first into Baghdad. He says that he was astounded at the coverage of the war once he returned. He said that it is an insult to his buddies that died and to those who are still there, doing a lot of good.

It's quite sad to hear about this. When you talk about reporting, while you want to get close to the story, there comes a point when a tragedy like this takes place and you become part of the story. As CBS evening news interim anchor Bob Scheffer describes, This story proves that war coverage is not a reality show, it is reality. My prayers goes out to the families of Mr. Brolan's and Mr. Douglas' and Ms. Dozier.
CBS News reporter Kimberly Dozier has strong ties here locally in Maryland and she was a Baltimore native. I live less than 20 minutes from Lutherville. So my thoughts are with Kimberly Dozier and her family and I hope she makes a full recovery.

Amazing how people use a single crew's misfortune to be critical of the media. They all fail to realize that the embedded reporters don't just show up. They are invited by the Dept. of Defense. The large-scale embedded reporters idea was invented by Donald Rumsfeld. Now, considering the iron fist with which Rumsfeld rules, do you really think the embed program would continue if they were so horrible?
