We had little more than spit on the ground earlier today here in Galveston, while they were showing flooded streets up in Houston. But just a short time ago, I raced back home from Bayou Vista after I saw what was moving through the GOM on radar and felt the wind. Reminds me (the wind, at least) of the Mother's Day storm last year. I don't recall which way it moved in or anything, just that there were strong winds and a really intense deluge. I'm in for the night.

Stay safe, everybuddy!!

Here on the west side of Houston we didnt get too much, just gray skies and nice windy weather... Kind of reminds me of a tropical something moving ashore... Kind of a weird day... At work there was alot of people talking about the weather and how odd it looked outside.. also heard reports of the power going out in the Champions area around 4 am and just getting back on around 9... we didnt get much, Im jealous!!

I had 1.05" overnight/this AM. In the last 30 minutes the wind has really kicked-in from the south and some low stratus is starting to stream in. Something tells me I'll be waking-up to thunder again.

Ugh! That rain is just hugging the coastline. It needs to move north about 25-30 miles.

Winds here in Houston are gusting around 30 mph. Definitely has become quite windy over the last few hours. Looks like a good chance we will wake up to storms before first light and there is a good chance those could have some quite intense rainfall rates. FF in a few different areas of the metro and a FFW for the whole area through tomorrow morning at least. Everyone be watchful and safe. Oh, btw, we had 0.84" here at the abode from the earlier rains. Managed to get some fence repair done between the drops.

Certainly much quiter tonight as rain in the Gulf has kept good return flow from returning.

It (the wind) was kicking. I parked the truck in back out from under the trees, the same as Hurricane Rita. It's still a bit windy here at times.

But Rita had gusts to 61mph in Houston. Looking at reports..top gusts have only been near 20-30mph (with no wind advisories in place). At the coast it is a different story, however, winds to 45mph with gusts to 53mph have been recorded at Port Aransas. According to Joe Bastardi, tropical storm force winds (especially in gusts) will likely be felt along areas of the coast (more specifically the central TX coast) as a rouge low moves closer to shore. Joe says that after this current feature dies away another feature could try to feedback and develop stronger...possibly into a TS. We need to watch the Gulf closely in the coming week or two as it becomes better primed for development.

Rita may have had stronger winds than this, but as YG said, it was bad when Rita was close (before she hit).

How many of us were actually here DURING Rita?

I stayed at home, but I'm up in Spring. I was outside (sheltered under the patio) in the wee hours while we had our 45-50 mph winds. Yes, I'm a little crazy I guess

Looks like the deluge will be working onshore today. Already some big downpours in west Houston.

So my eyes weren't deceiving me when I saw a circulation on the radar to our SW.   I was sitting there thinking, I hope this sucker doesn't just sit and/or just keep pumping more and more rain our way!!! We need the rain, but not deluges.

I know the winds were higher when Rita hit, but here where I live near Katy, we really didnt get much wind at all! I dint think there was even any bracnhes or anything down... I have 2 huge pine trees in the front yard, and they didnt loose any branches.. Those trees have lost more during a good thunderstorm than when Rita was near....

Well the rains have started and there appears to be more moving in. However, the circulation I saw on the radar earlier is now gone which I consider a good thing at this time of year. The A word comes to mind about this time every year since 2001!!

There is an elongated shear axis parked to our west, drawing-in moisture from the GOM, S-N, to its east, and the flow on the backside of it is more N-S. There appears to be some meso-lows embedded in the main circulation which periodically present a few swirls/small circulations on radar.
