you all are nuts ......... obviously katrina does NOT stick out in your mind at all .... you wouldn't say that if you had been thru what we have here on the mississippi gulf coast ... i completely understand the enthusiasm b/c i used to do it too but remember there are many of us still suffering every day from what katrina brought on ... just be sensitive to what others are continuing to go thru :ggreen: :cheesy: :ggreen:

I think every year I make the same post and have the same reaction.
I hate these bring it on threads.
I know storm watching is exciting but some of us storm watch for other reasons. Some of us storm watch because we have been through horrible experiences and are terrified that it might happen again.
Once that happens, the excitement has worn off and the dread sets in.
for me hurricane season is wait and watch and worry season.
it's not exciting any more.
I have seen the destruction.
I want no more of it for myself or for anyone here.
I agree with the previous posters.
For God sakes be sensitive to those who have suffered through terrible storms.
Please curb your enthusiam just a little for us.

I agree. Most of all, can we please stop the -removed- that continues to run rampant? The -removed- annoys me to end.

Thank you Bluefrog, Msbee, Ivan and Cape. The -removed- has started early.

Maybe another season like 2004 and 2005, will make believers out of some to the seriousness of Hurricanes.

I heard that State Farm is raising rates over 200% in Collier County. IF we have another year or two like '04 and '05, all the insurance companies MIGHT pull out of Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Excellent post. I think there are many of us who are still fascinated by hurricanes, but will never feel the same about Hurricane Season again. Landfalling canes change lives forever, and I guess that's hard for some of the younger folks to comprehend.

Very true. After last year it's hard to read some of the inane/insensitive comments that get posted, but as Clint_TX put it so well in another thread, "Most Folks will never believe the stove top is hot unless they've touched it themselves." With that analogy in mind, we need to remember when we post that there are still a lot of as of yet unhealed wounds carried by folks -- fellow S2k'ers -- who know firsthand what it's like to get severely burned.

Everybody needs to keep in mind that just because someone wishcasts doesn't mean it will happen! Some people seem like they blame the people I disagree with for the storms (when they had nothing to do with them). To me, the people I disagree with are fine because I know that they will not change the outcome of a situation. I have been through 4 hurricanes in the last two years and have seen four rounds of destruction; yet today when I hear someone wishcast, it doesn't really bother me. My strategy is: If I don't like what someone writes (or wishes for), I just ignore their post.

It is quite amazing how many folks on here were directly affected by cane season 2005, and the difference a year can make in attitude towards a new hurricane season. Don't take my word for it; go to the main Talkin' Tropics page, and at the bottom where it says "all Posts", click on one year, start with the last page, and work your way forward. Just read the titles and a few of the topics that have a mess of replies or that you might recall from last year.

I know that, and I agree. It's just that the -removed- gets so annoying after a while, and the aftermath of a storm is not fun. That's all.

Beautifully said, MsBee. This thread made me cringe when I started reading it.

Bring it on I guess cause its not like we can do anything about it. And you can wish all you want for or against a storm and it wont change a thing cause mother nature is gonna do exactly what she wants. I've always been lucky so far. I just dont wanna loose my AC!
