I can say I enjoy it when hurricanes make landfall however I don't enjoy the aftermath personally or wish suffering on people... that's just a consequence of us getting in the way. It really is a huge event (maybe a little too huge). You can't separate the two but in some way you can. I'm sure there are people on this board that felt a little bit of a letdown when a strong hurricane approaches the coast and falls apart (say Lili 2002). Even after Wilma came off the coast of Florida and make a bee-line this way... it was a strange mix of "oh crap" feelings when it intensified and "darn" when it stopped. I think everyone sees this through a different lens.. if I had been at ground zero of a Cat 4-5 I would probably have a different perspective. I can understand both young and old revelling in the power of mother nature and still being terrified when it comes to the coast.. but having this one little bit inside that wants it to get worse. Just a part of human nature I suppose..

To each his or her own, Benny; but I think I speak for quite literally millions in that we want NO PART of seeing one of these monsters hit anywhere near a populated area. Yes they are beautiful when seen from a safe distance... but what they leave behind is all too often human misery of an apocalyptic nature--not pretty at all.

Yeah, Ivan. Maybe just one too many flashbacks in reading posts I might well have done better not to have read at all... I think I'll just go out with the gang tonight and get hammered. Maybe that will help me look at things through one of those different lenses.

If you cannot live in a secure home and have the ability to secure your belongings you shouldn't be living in areas vulnerable to hurricanes. I have no remorse for people who build poorly constructed houses on barrier islands and then keep rebuilding after a hurricane destroys it.

let me post my earlier post again :grr: try to take it to heart

You know, it all comes down to RESPECT. (starts humming Aretha Franklin song) If you are one who wants to experience a major hurricane, fine. No one on this board is going to change your mind, but have respect for those on here that have lost everything or knows people who have lost everything. Many of us on the northern gulf coast have lost to much over the past 2 years and we are not asking for sympathy or a pity party, just respect. I could go on for a long time but I think this will be suffice.[/b]

I have no remorse for people

ADMITTEDLY out of context.... but I think it sums up the individual in question. Yes, it's judgmental in nature--but based on many observations.

One word - evacuation. Simple as that. A "secure home" is one thing; protecting one's life is a whole other thing.

Do you have any "remorse" for people who live in tornado alley, flood plains, mudslide risk areas, earthquake regions, or forests threatened by wildfires?

Scorpion I know you have said that you don't care what other people think but, why would you want to say things that are borderline trolling. I know you are not stupid but, I would say that you don't care about how others feel. You may want to look up the word "Compassion" in the dictionary. Oh wait here I did it for you:

compassion

n 1: a deep awareness of and sympathy for another's suffering [syn: compassionateness] 2: the humane quality of understanding the suffering of others and wanting to do something about it [syn: pity]

Also "compassionless" which would be the lack thereof.

Rest assured, there'll be more. This is "party central" (not to mention "Great Food Central") in spite of all that's happened. We'll keep a seat waitin' for ya next time.!
