Sunburn
Hi everyone! I have spent much of the day today mowing our church's yard. It is very big. I always take time to properly apply sunscreen, but even still I have wound up with the worst sunburn I have ever had. Yowzers! And people say summer is fun...

You are right, there is only about 2 mths. outta of the year my "base" tan is gone. There is usually some sort of color to my skin. I always try to start exposing myself to the sun at a slow rate in spring so that I don't end up with a burn. Although my skin is kinda hard to burn, if I do get burnt it usually is gone by the next day and the redness turns to tanness.
I know it can be painful though. I find the green aloe gel to be soothing till it goes away. Hope ya feel better soon.
Good guy for going out and helping the church get the lawn tackled.

Miss Mary
Oh yeah, I've had one legit tan in my life - one. And I cheated - went to a tanning bed for a few weeks before an Hawaiian trip in April with friends. Otherwise I would have burned to a crisp. I kept that tan going all spring and summer when I got back. But I had a good base going (tanning bed).
I've had my share of sunburns.
If you have Noxema skin cream on hand, use it. It reduces the temp of your skin and helps it heal from the burn. We take it on vacation with us every summer.
Hope you feel better!

I once had a sunburn soooo bad while visiting my cousins down in Florida..it was in the summer of 2003 and the place was Deerfield Beach..and there I was having a grand old time..not realising that the Florida sun was burning me up.
Even though it was just 3 or 4 hours...by the evening...I could not move. My back was burnt so bad...sooo red..it was actually bleeding...i've never had such a bad sunburn ever in my whole life (and never will it happen so bad again)
But yeah...the people in the church better know how blessed they are to have you in their church wx247!

Good luck on healing. Aloe helps especially if you get it on quickly.
I will never complain about it again. You put things in perspective and didn't even mean to.

Oh my, I feel for you people who are talking about blisters and bleeding.
I have never been burnt like that. Ouchy. I have peeled a few times but not badly, just thin layers of skin kinda flakey. Although I have seen some people with popped blisters and huge chunks of skin peeling off. Does not look pleasant.

Worst one I ever had was on Ocracoke Island NC many years ago when I fell asleep on the beach and woke up 4 hours later. Later that nite I was in agony..theres no hospital there only a clinic and I didnt want to have the Physician Assistant paged in the middle of the nite. Went in the next morning and got a little something for the pain and some cream..and a stern warning to stay out of the sun for several days.

Once I went on my Caribbean Cruise and on the very first day out to sea, I fell asleep on a lounge chair by the pool. Forgot to put any sunscreen on. That was before I got addicted to tanning bed and was fair complected. I was miserable the rest of the time. I looked like a tomato with hair. I had to take cold showers and it hurt to lie down no matter what position I would try to lie in. I peeled for 3 weeks after. Now that I am dark and go in the tanning beds all spring and summer, I rarely burn any more. Even though I am going to probably look like a prune by the time I am 35.
