The TS actually came ashore on the 5th but most of the destruction was from flooding the 8th and early 9th. There were actually more deaths from Allison in Texas than from the Cat. 3 Alicia in 1983. Allison was actually backing up when the flooding occurred and ended up re-entering the GOM and reemerged in Louisiana. It killed people as far away as Pennsylvania.

Scary times....
Those last two days when they system was moving south was something else. If I remember correctly, a few local mets thought that those of us in Southern Brazoria county could be looking upwards to 20 inches on the Saturday that it moved through our area. Strange enough I think we received less then a few inches, while just 40 miles to our north...Well you know the rest of the story.....

Until less than a year ago, it was the name we hated to speak.

Allison was the costliest tropical storm
I remeber hearing about the horror stories of flooding in Houston. Some people got trapped in an elevator becasue of the flooding. It hung around in the gulf, bringing lots of rain as a depression before finally becoming a TS briefly, then she made her way up the east coast leaving 17 people dead.It was the strangest TS I had ever seen
