Does anyone have an explanation why they are going that far south?

The more area they can cover the more data to add into the models.

Based on visible and IF loops it appears the system is becoming weaker. Is this the case? or is just a brief stage the storm is going through?

It's a "new" update but an old image. Take a look at the purple times on the bottom. The image is 9 hours old.

Until recon made its way out there, it was not set in stone that there was really that much to this system. Though this is nothing new with systems that have such a broad area of low pressure.

Sure they will explain things with the new recon info in the 5pm disco...

Would not be surprised with the new info if it is downgraded @ 5...

Unless they are seeing something down south.

The 32kt report probably means they will hold it at 30kt (35 mph). I don't see them upgrading it to a tropical storm though.
