Visible imagery this afternoon displayed a small circulation to the west of the wave. It didn't last long, but this wave is pretty healthy, and yes, it is approaching a significant drop in shear. I think we'll have some more (welcome) rain midweek, but also probably a wind surge. When it reaches the western caribbean or epac, who knows?

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
337 PM AST SUN JUN 11 2006
.DISCUSSION...WEATHER CONDITIONS BECAME ACTIVE ACROSS PUERTO RICO
AND THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS SINCE THIS MORNING. DIFLUENCE OF THE UPPER
LEVEL WINDS OVER THE AREA ASSOCIATED TO THE ANTICYCLONIC FLOW OF
T.S. ALBERTO PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCATTERED TO
NUMEROUS SHOWERS OVER THE AREA. SATELLITE IMAGERY AS WELL AS
SATELLITE DERIVED WINDS SUGGEST THAT THIS SCENARIO IS GOING TO PERSIST
TONIGHT. IN ASSOCIATION TO THIS...I DECIDED TO INCLUDE MORE
ACTIVE WEATHER FOR TONIGHT AS WELL AS HIGHER POPS AND CLOUDINESS
IN A SHORT TERM BASIS.
BY THE BEGINNING OF THE WORK WEEK...A TROPICAL WAVE NOTED ESTIMATED
ALONG 48 WEST IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE LOCAL AREA LATE TUESDAY
NIGHT AND DURING WEDNESDAY. THIS WAVE IS EXPECTED TO INTERACT WITH AN
UPPER LEVEL LOW TO THE EAST OF PUERTO RICO RESULTING IN A GOOD
LIKELIHOOD OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE LOCAL ISLANDS. IT
SEEMS THAT THE HIGHER CHANCES FOR ACTIVE WEATHER WILL BE IN THE
EASTERN SECTIONS OF PUERTO RICO. THERE ARE GOOD CHANCES FOR URBAN
AND/OR FLASH FLOODING DURING THAT PART OF THE WEEK.
&&
.MARINE...THE ADVENT OF THE TROPICAL WAVE AND THE INFLUENCE OF THE
UPPER LOW WILL PRODUCE WEATHER CONDITIONS WHICH WILL RESULT IN AN
INCREASE IN THE SEA HEIGHTS ESPECIALLY OVER THE CARIBBEAN WATERS
TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.
&&
.AVIATION...ACTIVE WEATHER EXPECTED BY THE BEGINNING TO MID OF THE
WORK WEEK MAY RESULT THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OVER THE LOCAL ISLANDS
AS WELL AS THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD.
&&
.HYDROLOGY...ALTHOUGH THERE ARE CHANCES ALSO FOR RAINFALL
AREAWIDE IN THE AFOREMENTIONED PERIOD OF TIME...IT IS BELIEVED THAT
THE EASTERN HALF OF THE ISLAND WILL RECEIVE THE MORE ACTIVE
WEATHER. THIS SCENARIO WILL CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED.

Sure this wave will be the first serious disturbance of the season for the antillies chain;friends in the central and western carribean had to pay attention with this system that seems to get some convection developping at the present time....this the time for the easterly waves to grow over the islands!!!No???

It could develop once it reaches the NW Carrib. or Gulf of Mexico. This means another active late week/weekend could be in store. We shall see. JB is mentioning a "pulse of activity" in the western Gulf starting late next week/next weekend...we shall see.boca wrote:Is this wave expected to develop or just chug along.
Keep in mind: JB called the current system well in advance.
