Once this band gets onshore...this is what to expect with it:

25-40mph sustained winds with gusts to 40-55mph.

What band?

just saw some weather channel live shots and they were starting to actually look like they were in a TS! Looks like the weather has changed very quickly along the west coast.

latest Sarasota wind report:

S 28 G 40

**TS force gusts**

And here is the St. Petersburg report:

S 29 G 37 MPH

These winds are getting strong enough to start blowing around loose items.

I don't think we'll see much to power outage with this storm, but, everyone take it easy.

looks like the center is just hours from landfall:

http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/radar.ph ... 1&loop=yes

It almost looks like a more northward movement, so Tallahassee could be in the cross hairs.

My thoughts on what to expect:

If you are in the area of the direct landfall (and associated bands):
-sustained winds of 35 to 55mph with gusts up to 60-75mph.
-Widespread minor damages.
-Scattered power outages.

Along the west coast of Fl from Sarasota to north of Tampa:
-Periods of 25 to 35mph sustained winds and gusts to 50mph (mainly in isolated bands).
-Isolated minor damages.
-Isolated power outages.

Along the big bend (outside of main circulation bands):
-35 to 45mph sustained winds with gusts to 45 to 60mph.
-Isolated/Scattered minor damages.
-Isolated/Scattered power outages.

Inland along the path of the circulation:
-20 to 40mph sustained winds with gusty squall gusts to 40 to 60mph.
-Isolated minor damages.
-Isolated power outages.

Panhandle west of landfall:
-20 to 35mph sustained winds with gusts to 50mph.
-Very isolated minor damages.
-Very isolated power outages.

Inland central Florida:
-Periods of 15 to 25mph sustained winds and gusts to 30 to 40mph in squalls.

In the area of the direct landfall (within 10 miles of the coast), expect damages like this:

Just had a mildly impressive 15 minutes with that north-south band coming through Brandon (east of Tampa). A bit gusty and heavy rain. On the local tv station doppler (Bay News 9) there were some areas of circulation near my area. It looked to me that the winds were coming from the SW at first, then the wind started looking a bit chaotic and was coming from the east as well. Everything has died down significantly now though. Looks like there's only one more (smaller) band to get through, then the bay area will be through with Alberto (well, maybe).

:my 2cents:

Winds in Apalachicola have gone from about 14mph to gusts to 31mph in just one hour! The inner "eye wall" band is approaching though, so winds from that area eastward should increase greatly by 2am.

I'm in Tallahassee, we've had gusts of 45mph with steady rain. I'm hearing some banging noises in the neighborhood. Must be trash cans.

looking at the current movement, Tallahassee may see worse conditions than first expected.

1:00 AM Advisory shows it not strengthening and landfall is literally hours away. I doubt very seriously it'll make it to Hurricane strength, probably max sustained will be in 60 - 65 mph in squalls, highest gust could very well, (even probably will) be just at or over hurricane strength... but all this will be hindsight by tomorrow morning. I agree, the storm definitely seems to have taken a slight more northerly shift; but the NHC had already to expect this before it resumed NNE to NE track. Well I'm gonna call it a night to. All you Floridians stay safe, and stay dry!

WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
340 AM EDT TUE JUN 13 2006

.SHORT TERM (TODAY-THU)...TROPICAL STORM ALBERTO CONTINUES TO MOVE
NORTHEAST AND EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE FLORIDA BIG BEND LATER THIS
MORNING. BANDS OF SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE TO MOVE
ACROSS THE REGION AND WILL CONTINUE TO SHIFT EAST DURING THE DAY.
MORE CONVECTIVE BANDS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP WITH DAYTIME HEATING SO
WILL CONTINUE WITH CATEGORICAL POPS AT THIS TIME. GUSTY WINDS TO
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS...
ESPECIALLY NEAR THE COAST AND WITH THE BANDS OF CONVECTION. WINDS
SHOULD BEGIN TO DIMINISH SOME THIS AFTERNOON...BUT ANY SUNSHINE WILL
HELP TO MIX DOWN THE STRONGER WINDS JUST OFF THE SURFACE AND WILL
REMAIN RATHER BREEZY.

ALBERTO FORECAST TO CONTINUE MOVING NORTHEAST AWAY FROM THE AREA
TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY WITH SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY ALONG
WITH THE WINDS GRADUALLY WINDING DOWN. STILL EXPECT PLENTY OF
MOISTURE TO BE AROUND SO WILL CONTINUE WITH SCATTERED POPS FOR
TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY...EXCEPT LIKELY ACROSS THE SOUTHERN ZONESON
WEDNESDAY WHERE DEEPER MOISTURE WILL RESIDE.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY...WEAK HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER
THE AREA WITH SOUTHWEST TO WESTERLY FLOW CONTINUING. STILL PLENTY OF
MOISTURE EXPECTED TO BE AROUND AND WITH DAYTIME HEATING EXPECT TO SEE
MORE SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.

HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN BELOW NORMAL TODAY...MAINLY IN THE
LOWER TO MIDDLE 80S...AND THEN CLIMB BACK TO ABOUT NORMAL BY
THURSDAY. LOWS WILL CONTINUE TO BE MAINLY IN THE LOWER TO
MIDDLE 70S.

.LONG TERM (THU NGT-MON)...UPPER LEVEL RIDGING TO THE WEST OVER THE
GULF STARTS TO BUILD IN ACROSS THE STATE FRIDAY AS THE HIGH STARTS
TO SHIFT EAST. THE UPPER LEVEL HIGH GRADUALLY SHIFTS ACROSS THE
EASTERN U.S. AS THE TROUGH PUSHES EAST OVER THE WESTERN ATLANTIC.
AT THE SURFACE...HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS IN PLACE ACROSS THE AREA
THROUGH THE PERIOD KEEPING GENERALLY EASTERLY FLOW IN PLACE. DRIER
AIR AND SUBSIDENCE UNDER THE RIDGE WILL KEEP RAIN CHANCES LOW...
GENERALLY 20-30 PERCENT AND MAINLY DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING HOURS WITH THE SEABREEZE. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN NEAR NORMAL THROUGH THE PERIOD...WITH HIGHS AROUND 90 TO THE
LOWER 90S AND LOWS IN THE UPPER 60S NORTH TO THE MID 70S COASTAL
LOCATIONS.

&&

.MARINE...HIGH WINDS AND ROUGH SEAS WILL CONTINUE THIS MORNING THEN
SLOWLY BEGIN TO SUBSIDE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. CONDITIONS WILL
CONTINUE TO IMPROVE WEDNESDAY AS THE SYSTEM MOVES NORTHEAST AWAY FROM
THE AREA WITH WINDS AND SEAS SUBSIDING BELOW FLAG CRITERIA FOR THE
REMAINDER OF THE WEEK AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS OVER THE AREA.

&&

.AVIATION...TS ALBERTO WILL CONTINUE TO INFLUENCE THE WEATHER
CONDITIONS OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS...WITH PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN
CONTINUING THROUGH THE DAY AND STRONG SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS
GUSTING UP TO 40-50 KTS WITH THE STRONGER RAIN BANDS. CONDITIONS
SHOULD START TO IMPROVE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON ONCE ALBERTO MAKES
LANDFALL IN THE FLORIDA BIG BEND AREA AND SOME DRIER AIR STARTS TO
WRAP INTO THE AREA ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE STORM.
