Extreme heat in south central LA

NWS calling for highs of 99 Sunday & Monday and 95 the rest of the week with barely a chance of rain in sight. We need some cloud cover & rain!!!!!!!!

I certainly agree.. this heat is almost unbearable. Don't care to have anything tropical head here; but a nice stretch of what used to be typcial PM convectional showers would be a nice respite.

We "only" made the mid-90's... heat index 105-109... But I think there's some promise of relief headed your way... and hopefully ours, because a lot of the rain we get, passes through Texas first.

It only got up to 93 today but didn't feel too bad. We also had north winds around 17mph which made it feel cooler.

A good stiff breeze does help make it bearable, especially when it's out of the North. All the humidity here does make it oppressive when there's just little to no wind, or when it's barely from the South and moist.

It's a little better for the next two or three days, but, then the heat returns again.

Yup, We only get low 90's next two days, and forecast back into uppers by Thursday or Friday... I do hope some rains move through Texas and find their way over here... we could use it.

Still a far cry from the summer of 2000 when we had a heat index of 130 here on the coast. The dew point was like 83 or 84....it was HOT!....MGC

Yesterday we had an official high (in Craig Colorado-the closest I can check online) of 90 and the day before it was 91, but at my weather station at my house, I had 94 yesterday. Luckily it cools off at night here. Yesterday had an official low of 36, and the day before 38. I actually had 32 at my house yesterday, which was just cold enough to frost the grass.

Around here you have to use the heater and air conditioner on the same day. 8-)

30's at night and 90's in the day is very common. Here, the record winter low is -61 and the summer high 102. Summer can range from the low 20's to the low 100's.

Yup, that's a typical continental climate... inland the summers generally are warmer than along the coast, even of the more southern states, (case in point the horrific heat wave of 1981 where I believe thousands died from heat, and most of those in the central US area--Chicago very hard hit). One advantage of living near a large body of water is the presence of that water which has a much higher specific heat than land, creating slightly cooler summers, and warmer winters.

Then again, there ARE the hurricanes.
