Here in VA she wouldnt get life. We have a vehicular manslaughter law and if im correct she would get 20 years max for that with additional time tacked on for DUI. In a few states..with my neighbor NC being one of them, penalties are MUCH more severe, with the death penalty being possible. However I do not expect to see anyone in the US executed for this anytime soon.

Yeah, well they need to be. I am sick to death of people being allowed to basically commit murder and then walk because the weapon was a car combined with stupidity. Seriously, you want to kill someone and get away with it - at least as far as man's laws are concerned? Just have a good snort of booze and run down your target. Oops! Unless you have what seems like the standard fifteen or twenty-something previous DUI/DWI offenses, you will do virtually no time. Heck, forget the booze, just flatten them and say "Oops, I was on my celly" or "I was sleepy". Again, thanks to the ridiculous "laws" in this area - you skip away. Granted you will still face lawsuits, but big deal. I bet that most don't go very far without serious criminal convictions - and most people will just move away anyways. So much for "paying" for their crimes. But hey, when you can go into any convenience store, buy a big ol' tall-boy beer - and the clerk puts it into a nice little brown bag for you (wink wink) - and you can pop the top and drive off drinking, well, what 'cha gonna do?
