Smells

Is there a smell that makes you sick?

Me... Gasoline. I hate that smell and if I am around it too much, I get a bad headache.

Perfume or heavy air deodorizers/fresheners.

LOL @ Stooge.......(guessing you've never had to use a portalet!)

They are really bad Mary. Hey, I remember the old wood outhouse on my cousins farm before they got plumbing. Hot, humid, mice and spiders everywhere, and yes, smelly.

Even if I did, I would have to hold my nose while using it.

My ex-SIL had a caseload full of plug ins at their old house. You walked in the door and you smelled these awful smells, all waffling together - a dog, a husband with his own odor (not the above one but smelly just the same), prior water damage in the basement and then a dozen or so plug ins. And not all the same scent either - Springtime, Lemon, Rain, Outdoors, etc. OMG - I had instant headaches in that house and I wanted to yank all her plug ins. Everyone said the same thing - why not just clean instead of camoflauging the smells? I prefer to open a window and stick with one scent with my claaners - either orange or lemon. Easier on the nose that way! And no plug ins!

Funny memories of outhouses. I've only used a few (state parks) and portalets when I was about to die from holding it! Sometimes it's better to go behind a tree (if you have privacy and there's not poison ivy nearby!).

Wet dog, roofing tar, gasoline public restrooms, (have learned to hold my breath quite well)some other smells too, but not going to mention them as I don't want to make anyone else sick

Cherry-flavored anything, especially cough drops (can't stand the taste of cherries and don't want to smell them either).

Bad breath or BO.

Nothing worse than the smell of death, even just an hour or so post-mortem.

Or using someone's bathroom and realizing their shower liner is mildewed! You smell it the minute you walk in that bathroom. That baby would have either been replaced or washed with bleach, hot water and laundry detergent! That's what we do with ours (wash it).

MF Dolfin,
My hubby had that same battle with Jack Daniels and Bacardi rum. when he was in the Air Force in the mid 70's. To this day the smell of rum makes him sick.

I was in the Air Force in the mid-70's so it may have been the same battle ;-)

Mf Dolpfin, where were you stationed at while in AF? My hubby was stationed at Nellis AF in Nevada where he was a crew chief on the F-111. What field did you have a position in?
