Late this afternoon saw heavy rains in SE VA associated with a SW moving convective cluster. Media also reported wind damage and hail in Seaford VA about 5 miles or so from my location but I have not yet been able to confirm this. There was some street flooding here in Hampton with several inches of water at some intersections and along low spots in roads. I saw little wind, perhaps a brief gust to about 40 mph so I suspect I did not experience the strongest cells. There was significant lightning and I did hear of at least one fire caused by a lightning strike. I might add that the most significant lightning occured AFTER the brunt of the storm. This reinforces what I have said here many times: Remain indoors after the storm passes until u cannot hear thunder for at LEAST 30 minutes! As the storm approaches and u begin to hear thunder get inside!
IF YOU HEAR THUNDER YOU CAN BE STRUCK BY LIGHTNING!!!
