Well we had a couple days of severe weather this past week. Here at my house we had 4 storms one night back to back and 2 the next. Ended up with minor wind damage, some power outages, and some minor flooding. I stayed up through the night watching the storms and might I say that the lightning was something I have never seen before. It was like someone had a strobe light on. Constant lightning and many cloud to ground strikes. We had some nasty downpours as well. Our tiny creek next to the house rose quickly and flooded. It still has alot of sediment in the creek bed from Frances and Ivan in 2004. The following day we had our second line of storms. I was working at the airport in Pittsburgh during these ones. We had a storm come through around 430pm. Storm was very severe from what I heard. In typical storms, you can't hear the thunder from inside the airport. It was built to keep out the sound of jets taking off. Well the thunder was VERY loud during this storm. The lightning was striking the terminal and the apron outside. It even cut the power several times, one thing thats never happened to my knowledge in the 13 years of the new airports existence. People were screaming throughout the terminal because of the close lightning strikes. Was very insane.

Our rain deficit is going to be erased completely in the next few days.

I had a number of severe storms last week. On Monday I wasnt even expecting bad weather and we had a huge hailstorm and windstorm. It lasted almost 15 minutes. It was one of the most intense storms I've been in. The fact that it came as a surprise was nice too. Then on Thursday we had more storms once again with hail and high winds off and on. Im hoping for some nice storms tomorrow, Im near enough to the slight risk that we may get some.

Had another interesting day at the airport. Day was running smooth with some delays to destinations along the eastern seaboard. Then about 730 or so Baltimore decided to shut down BWI due to heavy rains. They started diverting flights to Pit. I dont think I've seen the airport this busy since I started working there let alone at 830 which is the normal closing time for the Airmall. Southwest Airlines is located in Concourse A, gates 1, 3, 5. A flight came in from Vegas I believe which was supposed to be going to Baltimore. Everyone from that flight came into our store in A which I was trying to close. It took us an hour to get all customers satisfied and get the store closed. The passengers were very happy we were still open since they were hungry and nowhere to go. Mcd's and other restaurants in the food court had lines longer then I have ever seen them before. The last 3 restaurants ran out of food and had to close leaving passengers very upset. No a typical night at PIT.

Dense Fog tonight

#7 Postby jordanstorm » Thu Sep 14, 2006 8:27 pm

Expect dense fog overnight and into tomorrow morning until midday according to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana. Use extra time to get to your destination (work, school, home, ect.) in the morning and overnight tonight.
