Have you ever invited a person to stay in your home for a short period of time and you had a hard time getting them to leave? Either they were staying too long, they were messy, had their friends over or didn't give you money for board or food? How did you finally get them out?

I encourage them to depart by letting our two 60+ dogs wake them up in the morning by jumping up on the bed and licking them to death!!

I wish I was a more gracious hostess. I prefer knowing company is coming but my husband's best friend from childhood on (wonderful guy, I might add) is a very last minute person. He'll often call as he's on the road, "coming in town....". He always jokes he doesn't care if our house is picked up or not, just give him a couch to crash on. I make the best of it but it's not easy sometimes.

What I've decided is this:

I want to know when overnight company is coming.
and
I'm not really comfortable staying in other people's homes (I prefer a hotel).

Wow, that sounds picky doesn't it but it's how I feel!

I really wish I could be one of those easy going people but I'm not! Sigh.

I like your approach Grimmy! We do have a very hyper Golden, maybe I just need to let her out of the laundry room when company is here! LOL

Oh, Fur.... dog slobber is better than waking up to 20lbs of cat hair (alive) sitting on your face...remember...LOL!!!!

Yes I have had a few friends that just need a place to stay "till they get on their feet" and ended up staying way too long. Basically had to kick them out. Stuff like that can ruin a friendship. There was alot of goofing off and blowing money on BS and not much time trying to find a job and get out.

Not my friends, but nephews and nieces on my wife's side. Also a couple friends of my step daughter. Seems that all of them came to our house after they hit bottom, but before they wised up. And now everyone wonders why my oldest son has gotten into trouble........That's been a raw nerve of mine for years.

Just the other day one of my old friends said she needed a place to stay "for a while". Shes into some things that could jeopardize my lease so I told her no; since im not convinced shes changed her ways.

Im VERY particular about who stays in my home. I have an excellent rental/lease history and am not about to jeopardize that.
