Well I live not too far from DC and it's quite frankly a very ominous picture.

DCA...Reagan National Airport saw a record 5.19 inches of rain yesterday. A storm total so far of 7.09 inches was measured at Reagan National for a 24 hour period, which is ranked as the second greatest 24 hour rainfall ever in Washington. The greatest 24 hour rainfall accumulation at DCA occurred in June 1972 when 7.19 inches of rain fell from the remnants of Hurricane Agnes. 11.50 inches of rain fell at Reagan National Airport in June 2006 making this the wettest June ever in Washington.

Some places locally could see rain totals close to a foot between now and late Wednesday on top of what has already fallen. This could mean massive flooding issues during the next 24-48 hours with storm totals in spots when you combine all of the rain events could come close to 15-20 inches of rain.

On top of the rainfall induced flooding, tremendous runoff combined with a persistent southeast wind is piling water up on the Tidal Potomac and the Maryland portion of Chesapeake Bay, hence moderate tidal flooding is possible during the time of high tide midweek. A coastal flood watch or warning maybe neccessary if this trend continues.

Will closely monitor this from here in Baltimore. But this doesn't look pretty and we're just talking about flash flooding. Main stem rivers could flood later this week and this weekend. It will only take less than 1 inch per hour rainfall to start flooding areas of DC and Baltimore, a very saturated ground, and a very dangerous and life threatening situation. Many water rescues remain ongoing even at this hour outside of Baltimore. Turn around don't drown!!!

I saw the major flooding in the mid Atlantic states on NBC's Nightly News. Stay safe, everyone!

Here in Philly the Schuylkill River is starting to come out of its banks and from what I just heard on the radio it's still rising. On the way to work, I go over a few creeks and also the Delaware, the Delaware is high and a lot of the creeks and streams are lapping the shoreline. Will be an interesting trip on the way home as we are expecting more rain later.

It's definitely not a pretty setup around here. The Chesapeake Bay and it's tributaries have water rises now up to 1-2 feet above astronomical predictions and the threat for moderate tidal flooding is expected to be real later tonight as the water piles up from the bay into it's rivers and tributaries. This includes Baltimore Harbor, Fells Point, and Fort Mchenry where tidal flooding could take place tonight and last through Wednesday morning. A coastal flood watch is in effect for the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and it could be upgraded to a warning later this afternoon or tonight.

In addition, rainfall totals of 3-6 inches with locally higher totals up to near a foot is possible late today and overnight tonight in the Middle Atlantic region. Flash flood guidelines is extremely low in parts of the region. Alexandria, VA only needs 0.3 inches of rain in an hour to start flooding again. This ground is very saturated.

Remember to turn around, don't drown. The water maybe too deep for you to cross safely or the road maybe totally washed out. In addition with the heaviest rain occurring later tonight, it will be much harder to recognize whether or not the road is flooded and it will be difficult to realize the dangers of flash flooding, thus do not drive or walk through flood waters.

Finally, with southeast winds at the surface and southwest winds aloft, thunderstorms could begin to rotate into mini supercells and produce brief, small, but possibly dangerous tornadoes over portions of the Mid Atlantic Region. A tornado watch may become neccessary later today from southern Virginia and North Carolina northward through parts of east central Maryland, Delaware, and eastern Pennsylvania. Some of these tornadoes maybe hard to see because they're wrapped in rain. Do not wait until you see or hear the tornado coming. If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in the lowest floor of your home or business, preferably in a basement. If not a basement, a interior closest, or center hallway on the lowest floor and away from windows will work.

Will monitor this dual threat very closely. This is an interesting setup and not a perfect scenario for us in the Mid Atlantic. Be safe everybody.

There is a tornado warning for PA in elk county now, and the Schuylkill river is already flooding a lot of PA, I'm particularly watching the Delaware river as I have to drive over that to go home and it was already high at the PA/NJ border.

Be safe everyone, it's not over, be very careful.

You be careful too Mary. the Delaware and Schuylkill is expected to experience minor to near moderate flood levels on Wednesday. The Schuylkill at Reading could see major flooding tomorrow, meaning most of Reading except the west side of it will be under water tomorrow through maybe Friday. Even after this flooding rain ends, rivers may still rise through Wednesday.

Be careful and turn around don't drown. The worse of this river flood event occurs late tonight into Wednesday as water levels rise very quickly.

Susquehanna supposed to crest at 18 feet at Harrisburg on Friday..but with most of the rain from the low over NC forecasted to fall on the eastern watersheds it might get higher then that. It'll take a couple days for it to rise. Plenty of time to watch it.

The Schuylkill hardly EVER has a flood warning. Those flood warnings for the Delaware River will probably be extended further south of Mercer and Bucks Counties later. The water has to go somewhere. I'm on the other side of the Delaware and NJ has received copious amounts of rain as well. It won't take much to create a flood. I think it was last year where Yardley, New Hope and Trenton saw their worst flooding in years from the Delaware. This situation is much worse.

Be careful driving Jim, Helen and Mary. The three of you are in the thick of it. I'm going to get some rain, but I'm dodging a BIG bullet!
