Your favorite image/file hosting website(s)…

#1 Postby whereverwx » Tue Jun 27, 2006 6:53 pm

What website(s) do you commonly use to host images and/or files? I mainly circle around 3 websites—PhotoBucket, ImageShack, and FileDen. Occasionally, I will turn to QuickSharing.com for large files.

PhotoBucket and ImageShack are really nice and quick, but they only support image files (with the exception of PhotoBucket, which allows you to upload videos). Bandwidth is never really an issue on PhotoBucket, but on ImageShack, if you exceed the bandwidth limit, your file will be deleted… and that sucks. But at least there is no limit to how much you can upload to ImageShack. If I can estimate correctly, I’ve probably uploaded over 60 mb (800+ images) of images to ImageShack. Also, ImageShack recently changed their file size limit from about 1 mb to 1.5 mb. PhotoBucket has also upgraded, too, a while ago.

Now onto FileDen… nothing beats a file size limit of 50 mb with unlimited bandwidth and, yes, hot linking! FileDen is really nice for hosting those large files. Also, the download and upload times are great—really fast and quick. And the name says it all, “FileDen.” You can upload any type of file; whether it’s a movie, an MS Word document, or just your typical image; you can upload it. One more thing, you can batch upload. Let’s say you went on vacation and you took over 100 high quality images, and you wanted to upload them all. We all know that uploading each image one by one will take forever… well, when you batch upload, it extracts every image out of the zipped folder, saving you time. This website is highly recommend, IMO.

And hopefully, some of you will find this informative.

Image shack here, just to host a picture. I don't load and store any pictures/files to those sites they all stay on my hard drive. :D

I have been an ImageShack only kind of guy, but FileDen sounds like I might have to give it a try . . . definately could be useful.

Photobucket. I've only been using it for about 6 months now, so I'm relatively new to the whole "pictures and video on the internet". I only discovered You Tube a few months ago too.

I've been using Imageshack for the images on my site, but for the large images and files I use fileden, which I must thank Calamity for telling me about a few weeks ago on PM.

I just use PhotoBucket. I never really checked out the others; Photobucket is good enough for me (and it sounds like it's better than ImageShack from what you said anyway).

However, if I ever have use for anything more I might have to give FileDen a try. It sounds very useful.

Photobucket is where I upload files I intend to keep for my own purposes, but for quick one-time uploads (like posting stuff on here), I go with imageshack. Haven't seen Fileden... I'll try to check that out.
