Did You Ever

#1 Postby Janice » Tue Jun 27, 2006 8:48 pm

Did you ever find something of great value on the sidewalk or somewhere?

When we spent a week in Washington, D.C., I found a diamond engagement ring, rectangle stone, on the ground. We were looking at monuments.
I watched the paper all week to see if anyone placed an ad as lost, no one did.

I found a three carat diamond engagement ring in a bag of KFC chicken. Returned the ring to the owner who had just become engaged but had not had time to resize the ring. She was crying when we got back to the restaurant. Everyone was in shock that we returned the ring. Another time my mother found a beautiful heirloom ring in a purse we bought at a yard sale. It took time to remember which house we purchased it from. When the lady looked at the ring she started crying and calling for her sister. The ring had belonged to their mother who had passed away and they had lost the ring and couldn't find it anywhere.

Wow, you have quite the luck with rings.

I myself have never found anything valuable on the sidewalk or anywhere else, at least not that I can recall.

I found a gold ring with large emeralds and rubies in it on a playground in 5th grade (after hours, the playground was public park). At the time, I wasn't sure it was real, but now I realize it was because of it's weight and shine. I turned it in to the office where the secretary's eyes got REALLY big and she put it in her desk. I'm sure it went to the pawn shop that afternoon.

Found a gold chain with a cross on it on the bottom of a pool I was visiting. I was not even suppost to be swimming in the pool so needless to say I did not turn it in, I was a teenager. Also when I worked at the dry cleaners I found a bunch of things in peoples pockets. Some got returned others didn't. I figured you should probably check your pockets before dropping of your clothes at the cleaners. Sometimes it was rings, sometimes wads of money, and a few nice pens. As a kid me and my friend found a wallet on the ground with about 100 bucks in it, and it got returned to the owner.

I bet in a lot of cases, when you report or return such items to your boss, they never get back to the owners.....
