Begging

#1 Postby Janice » Wed Jun 28, 2006 1:00 pm

Have you ever had a friend or family member beg you for money? Or someone who is constantly calling you about their dire life always wanting a handout? They just keep coming back begging.

Yeah, my kids!!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist and I probably beat someone like Ed to the punch!!!!

My mom would appreciate if it my brothers and I bought her a condo. Oh sure, we have that kind of dough and time available for upkeep!

I used to have a guy come to me every Wednesday where I worked. The McDonald's here had 29 cent hamburgers every Wednesday and he'd come ask me for 31 cents to get a burger. I'd always give it to him, because I wasn't really giving him 31 cents, I was paying for him to leave me alone. If I didn't have the money, he'd want to chat. But, who knows how many people he managed to get 31 cents out of.

Yes, I have a furry and feline family member that is constantly begging for food and water. But since she's already a bit obese, I'm only giving her what she wants once a day.

Despite what Mary said, yes. My stategy is to be broke all the time.

Unfortunately we do live from paycheck to paycheck. The bills get paid, rent gets paid, the food, and household supplies, fill up the gas tank in the car, and buy two weeks worth of bus passes, and every other necessity gets taken care of in a frantic flurry of activity. Then if there's anything left over, I spend it on some other worthwhile thing, or a treat. After about two days I'm broke and immune to the moochers.

being broke actually gives me a feeling of great freedom.

I can't really recall anyone asking me for money. Some have borrowed, but always paid it back.

Yes I have had to deal with leechers before, so called friends that only show their faces when they need something but are never seen when im in need. Unless its someone truly in need I turn a deaf ear to beggars.

Janice if I could get all the money back that I "lent" over the years I could retire tommorow.

With true friends my philosophy is that friendship isn't a balance book, but the truth of that matter is there are four people in the world who I can deal that way with, and the rest I've encountered are no where near that trustworthy. I don't mind helping people out, but nothing makes me angrier than a loan which is made without interest and not repaid. Its a lie. Its stealing.

My grandfather is doing this to his four children, my father included. It's really driving them nuts - unfortunately, there's a bunch of guilt in the matter - who doens't want to help their family?
