Sorry - just repeating what the local news, which is currently on continuous launch coverage is saying.

Some storms just inland from the cape, so hopefully they will be well inland for launch time.

Nearest stroke is currently 33nm SE of the pad, just over 10 minutes ago, so no real lightning threat right now, and also there are a few sprinkles popping up just over 20nm offshore of the pad, so not much to worry about for now.

I must have heard incorrectly... Was just trying to be helpful as local coverage had mentioned anvil clouds over that way, I thought...

Apparently, I was a little too excited at the prospect of finally having something to contribute in return for all the wonderful information I have been so fortunate to be able to find here.

I'll return to reading your excellent discussions until I have a something a little more concrete to share.
Keep up the good work.

I thiik they need it almost cloud free so that they can get pictures of it going up. They want to see if the foam falls off again. Also when the spacecraft goes up it can create lightning on it own. That could lead to a disaster.

Yeah. It's not just about rain near the site. Things look decent now(though I still see lots of clouds), but they could be a minute or two from launch and still call it off.

NASA Blog entry

LATEST FROM MISSION CONTROL
NASA's Launch Blog - Mission STS-121

07.01.06

3:16 p.m. - At T-9 minutes and holding, we are still "no-go" for thunderstorms and clouds in the area. The Shuttle Launch Weather Officer is still monitoring the situation and the weather does still have time to clear. There will be a number of polls coming up: one by John Shannon of the Mission Management Team, one by Jeff Spaulding for the Test Directors and Mike Leinbach will conduct one as Launch Director. All of these polls determine if we are ready to come out of the hold.

1941 GMT (3:41 p.m. EDT)

SCRUB. Launch director Mike Leinbach has called a scrub for today's countdown. Weather conditions at the Kennedy Space Center are unacceptable for launch during the narrow launch window this afternoon, forcing a 24-hour postponement. Sunday's target launch time is 3:26 p.m. EDT.

"It's not a good day to launch," ascent flight director Steve Stich radioed from Mission Control-Houston.

Just heard. Too bad, but not too surprised. I have family who drove over to see it and I'm sure they're disappointed.

That happens to everyone, especially when they haven't posted in a while, if at all! The only way you can get things right is to keep posting. Don't let anything discourage you . . . you learn more by doing than by reading.

I can't wait intill the new ship comes out in 2009/2010. It should be more powerful and advance hopefully. In hopefully it will be able to launch at a wider range of times.
