Snobby, are you?

#1 Postby HollynLA » Fri Jun 30, 2006 10:18 pm

Haha, got your attention? Okay, here's the question, when it comes to material things, such as a house, clothing, vehicles, etc., what are you snobby about? I don't mean that in a bad way, more like, what are you willing to spend your hard earned money on, and pay more than average to have better quality? Also, while you're thinking about it, what are you cheap about?

Snobby about:
handbags, just got a new LV
cars, dh and I both have loaded to the max vehicles
meats, we like higher quality cuts of meat
shoes, I have foot problems and need comfort

Cheap about:
children's clothes, they just don't wear it long enough
linens, I don't like to look at the same sheets too long so I buy cheap so I can replace often
clothes in general, I've never been one to shop in fancy department stores for clothes. If I like it, I really don't care if it comes from wal mart for $3, if it looks good, it looks good
basic groceries, sugar is sugar and I'm not paying more for a colorful package
vacations, always looking for more for my dollar but refuse to spend massive amounts of money on a trip to another place

Good topic...
Snobby about...
Handbags- I have 4 Dooneys and I want a Coach...

Cars- have to be fast and well equipped... I have an 04 Grand Prix gtp... Love it! Though if I didnt have the kids I want a Mustang Cobra Convertable-mystic teal or a new Camaro...

Shoes- I love my Docs! and Converse-- old school chucks--...

Kids Clothes-I love Old Navy! Just about the same price as Walmart, and much better quality!! I have to admit it though, my kids have name brand stuff... they are 13,11,2.. I dont want them going to school and getting made fun of becasue they dont have the name brand stuff...

Skateboards for the kids... I have had the walmart brand skateboard and they last all of 3 weeks before they split in half... I have recently invested in a Birdhouse with some Independent trucks and Spitfire wheels... 130.00 lasted 2 years! we now have a BAM, not too impressed...

I am not a bit snobby. I will wear anything if it looks good. I used to spend a lot on clothes, etc. but not anymore.

We got a new small inexpensive car, love it. We did have a new Cadillac.

We have a really nice home, but it is too big and too much work, so we will sell and downsize.

I have lots of jewelry, hardly ever wear it except on vacations. My real father was a jeweler.

I think as I get older, all the name brands, etc. don't mean that much to me. You just pay a lot more for the name and the quality is not any better.

Yes, I have a ton of LV, luggage too. Those days are over.

What we do spend a lot of money on is really good meat and produce. We never go out to eat except on vacation. We love to cook at home.

I can have as much fun sitting in a bar drinking beer as in a 4 star restaurant drinking a fine wine. It is the company we keep that is important....

Snobby about my yard and the inside of the house, I am a CLEAN "FREAK!" and a I do mean FREAK.......it HAS to be spotless or nothing at all. I am VERY snobby about my vehicles, they too have to be spotless inside and out...........but the BIGGEST thing I'm SO snobby about is my "Dress Blue Uniform" for the p.d., the shirt and pants are tripled starched with creases that would cut ya :ggreen: and my duty boots and weapon are spit shinned to the point that you can comb your hair in the reflection and the brass buttons and my badge? Let's just say 8-)

AMEN to that Janice, what a great and true statement.

And on the topic of this thread. I find that there is nothing much I am snobby about. I am very down to earth kinda girl, and love a bargin. There are things that I do spend a little more on so it will last longer but they are generally practical things such as our refrig., stove, lawn mowers, stuff like that. As far as clothes and such I buy from Pennys, Sears, and have been known to buy a few things from Wal-Mart. Kids clothes are about the same. I do shop thrift stores, and garage sales as well. I agree with the statement made above. It is the company you keep and who not what you surround yourself with.

Dennis: I am glad I am not your wife. You would just die in my house, with 3 kids, 2 dogs, a cat and a few fish this house is anything but spotless.  Lets just say it looks 'lived in'. :D

I could care less about clothes, jewelry, handbags, shoes, drapes, carpeting... blah blah blah. BUT - I will shuffle around in flaps and rags so I can spend a few more bucks on plants and indulge my gardening genes.

I'm cheap about eveything, I couldn't give a hoot about fashion, make-up, jewels, etc. The only thing that I may be snobby about is YARN! I had to move the stash I had in my car to my office in work as I try to figure out how to sneak that in the apt, where I do have my stash in my apt it's stuffed :D

Ah, but AZ are you as meticulous as my hubby? He pulls vents off of the ac duct, takes the medicine cabinet & the radiator apart, he has taken furniture apart to get nicotine out, and I'm forever getting toothburshes at the dollar store to get him, sigh. I do this stuff maybe 3 times a year, when he wants to clean it's EVERY time!

I'm not a snob, I just expect all the fine things in life, and I appreciate them all.

I like fine crystal (wine glasses) especially. I like a high thread count in my sheets. I am a cleaning nut about my house and I like to buy really good plants for my gardens. I am snobby about the way my landscaping looks.

i am snobby about clothes, shoes, sheets, towels, shampoo, lipstick, and food. Good quality clothes just seem to fit better to me.
I have to have good shoes that last and are comfortable without being ugly.
Sheets, well, I'm with Karan on that one, the higher the thread count, the better. I iron them too.
Same with towels. Egyptian cotton are the best, imho.
I dont care what the commercials say, but better shampoo produces better results for me. Same with lipstick.
And as for food, I'm pretty picky about where I eat. No fast food, no house brands, I know, I know. I'm a food snob.

I am not snobby about my clothes, vehicles, food, housing, or other "things."
To see me in the Dollar store, with my cut-off sweatpant shorts, and holey (holy?) t-shirt, you'd think that I was just another homeless person.

I guess that I am snobby about bike riding. I have a bike that was professional grade when it was new in 1985. Now it's a "retro classic" and it turns heads among those in the know. I keep it spotless and tuned up to perfection. I won't be seen with people on department store bikes, or anyone wearing t-shirts or other civilian clothing. If you're not wearing lycra cycling shorts, and a colorful jersey with an Italian name, I'll just blow by you without even saying hi.

Once I get home I lose the alter ego and go back to being a dork.

I have to stress that I am snobby over some stuff, my foods, etc. But, I am never snobby in front of people. Just snobby at home and in private.
