Wx Alert radios. What's a good one?

#1 Postby deb_in_nc » Tue Jun 10, 2003 9:24 am

Mine is history. I bought it from Radio Shack when they first came out.
Now I need a new one. Any ideas?

I reccomend going back to Radio Shack and purchasing one. I would also get a SAME (Specific Area Message Encoder) type so that you can program in the counties you want to be alerted for so that if you have to leave it on at night (like we do here) you won't be awakened for a warning 7 counties away.

I programmed my county and all the counties surrounding me.

I have an Oregon Scientific Model WR-8000. I recieved it as a gift, but I think it is available at Radio Shack. They seem to have the best selection of Weather Alert radios. It is programmable and can be taken with you on your belt wherever you go. The only other place that might have a good selection would be someplace like Best Buy or a specialty weather related type of store.

Thanks. I think I'll head up to Radio Shack right now and check out their selection. Mine did have SAME. That's what I want again.
