What is the weirdest thing your mother and father wore that made you laugh?
Me... my mothers beehive hairdos
I can't remember my father wearing anything weird.

My mother had a high profile job interview about eight or nine months ago. So, during her lunch break at work she went to get her hair cut and have highlights put in it. Let's just say that the lady got a little carried away and my dark brown haired mother came home from the interview a complete bleach blonde.
I tried not to laugh, but it was such a shock I couldn't help it.

My mom - so many......saddle oxford shoes and bobby sox.....or taking her bangs (cut down to her nose), combing them up high and curling them with her fingers, then pinning this curly design on top of her head, meanwhile the rest of her hair was cut into a bob, curled under. I would stare at that 2 inch high bang bit and have to hide a smirk. We have pictures of her wearing this hairstyle - it must have been quite popular. She didn't do it b/c her bangs were growing out - it went for years!
My dad - probably the funniest look he had was when he was really hot (we grew up w/o A/C), he shed his short sleeved shirt. Here he was wearing long pants, dark sox and his black leather shoes (I don't tihnk I ever saw him barefoot!) and then no shirt - he had a very dark farmer's tan b/c he worked in construction. He'd laugh and say - man it's hot today!!!! My dad never wore shorts!

My mom wears something everyday that makes me laugh. Our tastes in clothes are like night and day. She dresses like she is 80. She turns 58 tomorrow but she has been dressing like that since I was little. No taste in fashion and has to be totally covered up. VERY conservative. I am totally the opposite and always wear the latest fashions. And my mom always throws a fit everytime I get dressed because I always usually have cleavage showing. If you got it, show it! I don't show a lot.
Oh, and can't forget all the embarrasing perms my mom used to get. Looked like an afro. She still does that to her hair sometimes.

In the mid 70's, Mom worked at my Jr. High School. EEEK! As a joke, my older sister gave her a key chain with a cannibis leaf on it. She used it and as the kids noticed it, word got around school that my mom was "cool." Little did they know she was oblivious - thought it was just a pretty leaf....

OMG! Pincurls!! Mom used to do those on me when I was a kid, but only for special occasions, thank God. How the heck could anyone sleep with all those bobby pins stabbing in one's head? By the time morning rolled around, two or three would have fallen out and I'd end up with straight bits mixed with curls.
Remember when those pink foam rollers came out? Those were even worse!

Did any of you have long hair and roll it on coke or beer or soup cans???? Talk about uncomfortable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mom always did the perm thing to herself and me ...yuk!!! After I got older I refused to let her do it anymore and had hair down to my behind, long and straight as a board, wouldn't curl for crap.
Her funniest thing that she wears now are the shoes.....she has swollen feet all the time (medical condition, she is 77) and she wears the ugliest shoes I have ever seen and if she tries to wear others, her feet are so puffy they stick out all over the sides and tops. Poor Mawmaw!

Mary - yes, yes, yes to your entire post!
I curled my very straight hair with orange juice cans. My hair was to my waist, and I'd put it into a tight pony tail on top of my head. Then split the pony tail into 4 sections, 2 rollers in front and back, the other 2 on the sides. I used those long bobby pins too, to secure them. Then the trick was to sleep with my pillow just under the rollers, the rollers hanging over the pillow - got the picture. Somehow thru the night one roller would come undone or I'd be sleeping with my head half off the mattress, so as to not disturb these rollers! The stuff we put up with!
My mom gave me a perm or two - they were downright awful!
I preferred my straight hair after that. I had friends with curly hair and they wanted my straight hair.
My mom wears either orthopedic shoes or Mary Jane's with orthopedic inserts. Shopping at a very specific shoe store, for men/women in her age group. I honestly have to wonder if this shop will just close up, when our generation is their age. I will not wear ortho shoes! OMG....no way!
One thing she did while growing up was cut out the sides on her saddle oxfords for her corns. Did that ever scream out - embarrassing parent alert!
