During lull in U.S. sports, gamblers turn to watching weather

How much do you win if you hit the tri-fecta? Some people will bet on anything. Very bad taste if you ask me.

Doesn't bother me at all. I have a little pool going. No money involved...just bragging rights.

The safest bets offer 2.25-to-1 odds that at least two Category 3 storms will hit the United States, according to odds posted by BetCRIS.com. Gamblers think the chances of six or more storms hitting the United States (5-to-1 odds) are more likely than no hurricanes hitting at all (6-to-1 odds).

Two Cat 3's I can see.. But when they talk about 6 storms hitting are they including td's Ts's or are they talking about 6 cat 3 or higher?

edit: now I see 3 to 6 hurricanes of cat 3 or higher is 4-1

Hey this just shows you that you can bet on ANYTHING.. However on a side note I did look for lines on the NBA draft that just passed and could not find any.. Go Figure.. Mother nature bigger then NBA I suppose

I pretty much think that it is rediculus and betting on death and a possibility of someone or many people losing everything is criminal imo

So this is what the world has been brought down to? Betting on everything that they can get their hands on? Whats next, betting on the next person to jump off a cliff?

I don't see much wrong with it. They already do bet on death. You can get big payoffs if a young celebrity dies. Dead pools are fairly common too, see Stiffs.com

Betting isn't going to change anything. Sure it may be in poor taste, but plenty of things are.

There is nothing at all wrong with this, nor is there with the hurricane futures market, which I made money in last year and will likely trade in again this year

This is not new people. Millions of people gamble every day on the hardships that mother nature brings along. The biggest betting parlor in the world is located on Wall Street. Freezes, droughts, they all get indirectly bet on. This is what commodities are all about.
