I am blown away by the number of people who wash dishes by hand!!  We have a dishwasher and always have since we were married. We don't have to wash the dishes to wash them, just get the big stuff off the plate. We run the dishwasher only when it gets full, which is about every other day or so. Once we have everyone out of the house, which will happen in November when my son marries I expect the use will go down considerably. I've honestly never thought of the cost of the water for the dw. I've always considered it a "necessary" convenience.

Dishwasher (machine) here! :D

I was a dishwasher one time at a Brown Derby restaurant in Ohio and talk about "He!!'s Kitchen!" I dubbed it that after a borough in NYC.

Some folks must have those "magic dish machines", as every one we've had left tiny bits of food here and there. The classic "gotta basically wash them before washing them" routine. Now, it's a storage rack for assorted pots and pans. Will probably yank it for good if we can ever afford a kitchen remodel. Also pulling that nasty garbage disposal. Just not worth the ocassional back-splash in the other sink drain, the unique odors and just the creepiness of that hole.
