Windows Vista Weather Gadgets?

#1 Postby Stratusxpeye » Fri Jul 07, 2006 11:18 am

I was wondering if there may be any other technology savvy weather interested people on the forum here :) I am using Windows vista as my main stream OS now to rigorously test the OS and all upcoming versions until RC1 in August. My question is I am looking for a weather gadget for the new sidebar utility that is part of windows vista. (I don't run the sidebar but I want to detach the gadget and run transparent on the desktop) Anything such as temp, wind or the usual weather info for a certain zip code.

Also looking for a radar gadget that could be set to tampa or the whole us or any parameters. This would be a great addition to any weather enthusiasts pc who may be using vista or will in the future. Or if there are any programmers out there on the forum that could create a gadget to use. Examples below.

Sidebar Screen shot:

Gadgets:

Detached Gadgets on desktop:

Yes I am aware of Microsofts site to add more gadgets http://microsoftgadgets.com/ But I'm looking for all weather related gadgets. Figured I would reach out to our storm2k community first and see if someone has more information than I do :) Or even a gadget for weather warnings such as tornado or tropical storm/hurricane warnings and others to feed through a gadget on this sidebar would be great for hurricane season. Thanks in advance everyone!

There are other gadget websites such as Konfabulator and DesktopX, plus many more. (Just google widgets or gadgets and you'll get tons of results). Now, I don't know if Vista can incorporate these other widgets/gadgets into its sidebar and desktop. I'm pretty sure you have to download those programs. I looked on Microsoft's website and they do have weather gadgets. (I wasn't sure if you knew about it or not). So here's the link http://microsoftgadgets.com/Tags/weather

I hope that helped! :D

Thanks for that link to the weather gadgets. It has weatherbug without needing to dl the program which is nice :) No i didnt see they had weather gadgets on the microsoft site. Must have missed that. I prefer to use gadgets integrated into the OS. I don't prefer third party add ons. Still searching for a radar weather gadget though. Thanks for the anwser so far though! appreciate it.

No problem. Yeh, I agree with not like using third-party apps. I think I've tested just about all of the widget programs and that all slow down my computer horribly. Are those microsoft gadgets just for Vista or can XP use them too?

By the way, how is Vista? Worth buying so far?

Yahoo Widgets has a radar one...

I think you have to download the main engine first, then you can add this to it...
Hope it helps...
I'm just passing this along...I have only used Yahoo, and then its only the Sat feeds and radar...

It's a beta version of the OS - it isn't officially released yet. You get it through the Microsoft site, but unfortunately their beta testing/review program is now closed as they have enough people. So if you don't have it by now, you're out of luck until the official release either later this year or early next year.

These Appear to only be for Windows Live. Which is also a neat feature to add as a personal homepage when you boot IE but not for windows sidebar :( I was excited for a moment there.

Beta 2 Was available to everyone as a free ISO image download from Microsoft but has been shut down. I'm running Build 5456 which is only available to select individuals and msdn subscribers for testing purposes and is a lot better than the Beta 2 build

Wait until next public release candidate and grab it or purchase it in january 2007 or if your in a business with a VLK purchase it in November 2006
