It's been approx. 18 hours now. My body misses it. There is a constant urge - almost an anxiety. I am able to put it out of my mind and I am getting some work done. It keeps coming back though.
It's amazing what happens when I experience the "triggers." Like last night when all 4 of my boys suddenly wanted to talk to me at the same time. Thats a big time trigger for me to grab a smoke. When that happened, I almost felt a "rush" of the urge and anxiety. I felt like running out of the house! I'm going hard on the lollypops, celery sticks and toothpicks. The hand/mouth things are helpful. I don't feel any lessening of the urge yet. It's got to start getting better!

That's the bad part. The good part is that I've coughed up enough tar to pave a driveway! I can breathe deeper than I can remember in a long time. My lungs feel like they can hold twice as much air.

Don't panic...I said that, but I don't think I should have used the word 'crave' - my mistake. Every once in a while, when things are stressful and my hubby goes outside for a 'smoke break' I think to myself, "I need a smoke break!" but really, I don't ever want to smoke again. If you're a smoker, don't read any further
You will be shocked as to how bad people stink who smoke after you quit. That aroma you once lounged in and enjoyed will become an awful, stale stink. Those clothes that you washed and thought smelled so fresh and clean really will smell fresh and clean. Believe me, it sounds silly now, but you'll know what I mean later. My hubby's clothes, bless his heart, always stink to me because they smell like a cigarette butt. He knows this and does his best to cover it up with cologne...only helps so much. When he comes inside, our little boys sometimes say "puuuey" and they adore him! Anyway, I feel so much better now. Coughing was just a normal part of me before, now if I cough more than once in a day, I must be getting sick. No more hacking! (yuk)

But most importantly, I am physically healthier. Besides the reasons above, my decision not to smoke ever again is because I want to be around as long as possible for my kids. I've got little ones to raise and they need their Momma. I use the same logic when I'm driving for instance, even without the kids. I drive as though they're with me because I don't want to get in a wreck and leave them without their mom.
Your lungs start healing as soon as you quit smoking. You reduce your chances of getting cancer, emphysema, having a stroke and you just live longer.

No matter how hard it is, don't give up!! You can do it and you will eventually be glad you did. It will be hard but chew lots of gum and stay busy. My dad was very difficult to live with for a while (smoked for over 25 years) but we all lived through it and so did he. He feels much better now and he's healthier. He's very glad he quit years ago....so am I.

It won't be easy and you know that. So, if you start to feel like you're going to cave, do something, anything, to take your mind off of it. Don't give in!! That's why it is so hard to quit and so many people fail. When it gets really really tough, they give in. Just stick it out...it'll be hard for a while and then it will get easier. I promise! :D

I am here for you if you want to talk. PM me and I'll give you my email address and phone number if you ever need to just talk.

Hang in there buddy...you CAN do it!!!

22 years since I had a cigarette!!!! I quit after the pediatrician said it was going to harm my children. I couldn't do it on my own, so I went through a program at Methodist Hospital here in Houston. It included self hypnosis and of course behavior modification.

BEST OF LUCK BRON!!!!

AWESOME NEWS ON THE VISA'S!!!! :multi: :jump: WE'LL KEEP PRAYING TILL YOU ARE HERE FOR GOOD!!!!!

When I got up this morning, it was eerie. Didn't have an overwhelming urge. When I got out of the shower though, it hit me. There's my wifes ciggs right there on the night stand. It would be soooo easy. It wouldn't hurt anything! I hurried up and popped a jawbreaker in my mouth and chugged my coffee.

Now at work, everything was fine till my boss came over. Major Trigger! My body is twitching all over. Had to write this. I need to do somenthing. Somebody hit me!

Ed,

Make a fist - then take a deep breath - let it out. Realize that you are probably breathing deeply for the first time in a while. Mentally picture your boss naked and put that picture out there usually will relieve stress.

My weird and wacky ways to help you. Hang in there ED...

WAY TO GO ED!!!

*SLAP SLAP* you can continue to keep it up.

Take Ticka's advice.. a naked boss should get your mind of anything stressfull  otherwise sit in your chair and try NOT to picture pink elephants :)

Im proud of you ED, they say the first 24 hours is the hardest, so look at it this way.. I STILL have to go through that period.

Well done David for quitting and not taking it up again. I pray I may soon be able to say the same thing :)

Are you ready Pburgh? It's our turn soon...

Amanzi, I'm ready. Can you see the smoke down there????lol

Ed, you're doing great. You can do it. If you didn't grab one of your wifes cigs this am, you're home free.

Ticka, if I pictured my boss naked, I would be nauseated and craving a cig. lol

My boss is a man! That would be a turn off, but a stress buster. Instead of smoke breaks, I'll take S2K breaks. That's a reward.

Hey Bronwyn, what brand do you smoke? One thing you could do now is change brands, or change from full flavor to light. That's a little psychological thing you can do to start the process in advance and slightly reduce the shock when you do. I was thinking about that... There's a psychological attachment to seeing that familiar pack. It's like an old friend at your side. You could make this change now to show your committment and start the process.

2 days smoke free. I'm not suffering so bad anymore, but those "triggers" still cause an urge. I can't let my guard down. I've committed to this and I need everyone to hold me to it. Numerous times already, I saw a pack there on the table and I felt like picking one up. Twice as hard with other smokers in the house. How could I face the friends here if I did that.

ED - 2 days - you are to PROUD of that accomplishment. Have you thought of getting rid of the pack and not having it in site and asking your family members to keep theirs out of site. Just a suggestion.

WAY TO GO ED!!! So proud of you my friend.. what a great encouragement for both Pburgh and I :)

It is harder when the temptation is under your nose all the time. I have asked my Hubby to please smoke away from me (I dont like the smell of smoke, but I do LOVE the smell of one that has just been ignited!) He has agreed to smoke outside..and not leave them lying around. I have found all my secret stashes, and thrown them out (I always hide a pack for a rainy day) Now they are gone, I even cleaned out my ashtray in my car (in case I get really desperate and go looking for butts in there...dont laugh Ive done it before out of desperation!)

I smoke Camel Turkish Jade, If I cant find those I smoke Marlboro Menthol. Actually to be honest, I will smoke any cig I can get me grubby paws on.

I have cut down in the last few day's and been preparing myself mentally. OF course been praying for strength too. I am going to miss you guyz in the next few day's, because I am moving over the weekend, and I only have my phone service put back on, on the 20th  So I am really going to be flying solo :o I may have to rush to a friend to make a post :)

Pburgh, just because Im not online does not mean I wont want to know exactly how you are doing! We have to catch up to ED ;)

Keep it up Ed, and hopefully I will be back online soon!

:D Great job Ed!!!! Pretty soon those urges will dimish. I hope I can do as well. Bron, It's funny cause I started cleaning ashtrays and stashes too. I have two cigarettes left and should just quit now, but I want to have one last "fling" this weekend. My treat will be one bottle of chardonnay and 1 pack of cigarettes. I'm planning on painting my bedroom this weekend so the beginning of eradicating the cigarette smell from my home will begin.

Ed, you have inspired me!!!!!! Keep up the good work. :D
