Flood Warnings: Ohio

#1 Postby dawgpound » Tue Jul 11, 2006 10:08 am

Much flooding in N/C Ohio yesterday with more rain to come. The area received anywhere between 4-10 inches of rain depending on the location.

Warnings for today:

Expires 10:30 PM EDT on July 11, 2006

Statement as of 10:30 AM EDT on July 11, 2006

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
southern Ashland County in north central Ohio
northeastern Knox County in north central Ohio
southern Richland County in north central Ohio
western Holmes County in northeast Ohio

* until 1030 PM EDT Tuesday

* at 1030 am EDT many rivers and streams across Ashland... Knox...
Richland... and Holmes counties remain flooded from the very heavy
rainfall that fell Monday evening. Numerous roads are closed in the
area... and travel is discouraged. Additional rainfall is possible
this afternoon and evening as an area of showers and thunderstorms
moves north into central Ohio. With the ground now saturated and
rivers running extremely high... additional flooding is likely this
afternoon. Anyone with an interest along creeks and rivers is urged
to monitor weather updates throughout the day.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported
along streams... creeks... and rivers in the area. All interested
parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Never attempt to drive through or walk across a flooded area. The
water may be deeper than you think. Never drive around a Road
closed barricade. Turn around... don't drown!

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from 2 PM EDT this
afternoon through Wednesday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of north central Ohio and northeast Ohio... including
the following counties... in north central Ohio... Ashland...
Knox... Morrow and Richland in northeast Ohio... Holmes... Stark
and Wayne.

* From 2 PM EDT this afternoon through Wednesday morning

* locally heavy rain is expected to develop this afternoon and
evening as a low pressure system moves northeast along a
stationary front that is over the area.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible across the watch
area this afternoon and tonight. Locally higher amounts are
possible as thunderstorms move slowly over areas where previous
storms already deposited rain.

* Recent heavy rains over the area have already saturated the
ground so any additional rainfall will run off into streams and
rivers causing rapid rises in the water levels. There is the
possibility that rivers and streams will overfill their banks
causing flooding.

A Flash Flood Watch means the threat of flash flooding exists
along rivers and creeks. If you are in the watch area you should
monitor weather conditions closely. Be ready to move to higher
ground if flooding is observed or a warning is issued. If you
observe flooding... never go near the swiftly moving water and
never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around... dont drown.
