Well it looks like the ITCZ is lighting up rite now with convection and a low could form at anytime...according to the map above the GFS thinks so. Also theres not much SAL coming off of africa right now...maybe the tropics will get going pretty good in about 5 days

The tropics are pretty good right now :) Lots of sunshine, lovely breezes, greened up, beautiful seas, no rain (of course...that is today!)

TMI data is showing that the SAL is fairly strong at the present time, with TPW values well below 50mm throughout much of the tropical Atlantic

That tropical Wave South of the Cape Verde Islands has plenty of convection. But we know the drill at this time of the year and that is not too favorable for development that far east. However, let's track it as it moves westward as time is getting closer for that part of the world to be favored for development.

This wave near 10N 28W looks like it has a nice spin to it. Could be the next Investigation if it doesn't go POOF.

I'm most impressed with this wave this morning. To be bad we don't have any surface obs to look at there.

The wave entering the Carr. doesn't look it will form anything, but one of the news channels said that shear should lighten up down the road, so possibility of it forming has a slight chance. The wave in the Atlantic looks good and when it enters the Carr. it should have better conditions to do something. There is a blob of thunderstorms in Arica that will be coming off by Sunday and one of the threads in here said that a forecast map developed a closed low off Africa 5 days out.

This wave is beastin man. Invest soon? I think this has the best chance out of anything so far this season and it has some good size to it unlike that weak 96L we have been following for the past week or so.

A WELL-DEFINED TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 25W SOUTH OF 16N MOVING
WEST 15-20 KT. LOW-MID LEVEL CYCLONIC TURNING IS CLEARLY EVIDENT
ON VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED
TSTMS ARE WITHIN 180 NM EITHER SIDE OF THE WAVE AXIS.

The above from 2 PM Discussion.

Is the environment terribly bad for development where it's at?

Right now conditions don't look that terrible for it....just a bit of southwesterly shear, but it's not really that bad (5-10kts maybe). Not sure about the SAL though.

Conditions aren't so bad in the Atlantic and they aren't any better in the Caribbean either.
