AODT says 5.7 = 110 mph
http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/tropic/adt/odt6.html The official number is much lower but that's because they average over a long time period, which will grossly underestimate a boomer. By vis, this is obviously a boomer. You can see the widening inflow and outflow, as well as the emergent eye and spreading feeder bands.

Very New % chances for Hurricane Bud:
Tropical Storm: 100%
Hurricane: 100%
Major Hurricane: 54%
Category 5 Hurricane: 5%
This is insane. My numbers have jumped upward by a huge amount. I have never seen rapid strengthening take place in a Tropical Storm and Depression. I have seen it taken place in hurricanes after CAT1. I asked some people on here if depressions can rapidly strengthen and here is my answer. Another thing, I would always think this is what it would look like if a TS is rapidly deepening.
Hurricane Bud looks great right now. There is a small eye now present and the NHC site is back to normal with usual TC forecasters!
All I can say is I want this thing to bomb out as high as possible.
CrazyC83 got this one perfectly correct. It became a hurricane much faster then I thought too. BTW, this is the most powerful Tropical Cyclone worldwide currently and the most powerful this 2006 Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season.

Yes, but I have never seen a topical storm rapidly strengthen. Only hurricanes I have seen do that, Wilma too.
I hope this becomes a cat5!!!!
Me too, that would rock. It is very rare though and hasn't happened in a long while (2002?). Remember, it's very possible this could become a category 4 because that has happened in June before.
Someone should create a very long loop of Bud's life once he is done. It would be very cool to have.
