COURT RULING, Pittsburgh, PA, June 29, 2006

Pittsburgh, PA (AP) - A seven year old boy was at the center of a
Pittsburgh courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court
ruling over who should have custody of him.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge
initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child
custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained
to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him
more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When
the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried
out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning
that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the
Judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who
should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child
welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the
Pittsburgh Pirates, who the boy firmly believes are not capable of
beating anyone.

Say what... :?: A pro ball team taking temporary custody of a kid?

I've heard the saying "it takes a village to raise or help raise a child" ...but never in regards to a sports organization.

Well, better though than being in an abusive history family any ol day!

Well, I fell for it, until that last line....b/c the Pirates are not capable of beating anyone.

The Reds were once that bad (and geez Louise, the Bengals for sure) - glad to hear it's the Pirates now - yikes, don't hit me Karan....er huh, beat me Karan. LOL

Nahhh, I'm not a baseball fan. The Pirates have been very bad for many, many years.

Mary, I'd never hit you. I just "smack people silly". LOL

Naw...I think the kid should go to the Royals actually...but wait, the Royals took all 3 from the Pirates...guess he belongs to the Pirates then. Maybe he will be on the field tonight when I'm there, or tomorrow night?

Karan, :)

I will give the Pirates this though...they had a heckuva championship in around the early 1980s (if I recall correctly) with greats like Willie Stargell, Kent Tekulve, Tim Foley, etc!! 8-)

Eric 8-)

Team certainly sucks but their time will come once again. I hope Mike Cuban and Dan Marino get the offer to buy the team. They will turn around the franchise. We did have the All- Star Game and a beautiful stadium!!

They are trying to buy the Penguins, not the Pirates.
