Iran denied that it had any troops in Lebanon.
Israel initially believed that an aerial drone armed with explosives hit the warship, but it became clear that Hezbollah had used an Iranian-made C-802 missile to strike the vessel late Friday, an Israeli intelligence official said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the information.
Iran's embassy in Beirut issued a statement late Saturday that called the Israeli allegations "meaningless."
As I haved said at this thread, the U.S and Israel must give an ultimatum to Iran or else bomb those nuke plants.Forget the U.N who will take the Iran standoff next week as I posted at the Iran Nuclear Standoff thread.
Can you explain why you think the US should be involved? I don't quite get why this is currently the US's problem.
For many months the U.S has been trying to get Iran to fold it's nuclear program which they haven't done. Now is the oportunity to do the job of taking out those plants.

While I truly hate to see civilians get caught up in a conflict not decidedly of their own making; I think this blanket condemnation is premature. Israel is a VERY tiny nation--that has been surrounded by a bunch of hostile bullies who've been determined to push them off the planet since the day their nation was re-established after WWII. They played the "nice guys" for a VERY long time, and watched quite literally MILLIONS of their people die horribly because of the basest hate-filled bigotry imaginable. They're very intelligent people, superb fighters, and they're just NOT going to take it any more, and I don't blame them a bit.
The terrorist organizations like Hamas, and Hezbollah are NOTORIOUS for killing countless innocent civillians--they actually TARGET women and children--events like weddings, hospitals, and schools... something that Israel has NEVER done. Then the terrorist SCUM run into civillian areas figuring that Israel is in a lose lose situation whereby they simply cannot strike back. Thank GOD that not everyone believes in fighting a war with a touchy-feely PC mentality. It's fighting a PC war that has gotten the US into two VERY ugly quagmires--first Vietnam, and now (unless it hopefully changes) Iraq. The people of Israel KNOW they can't afford that kind of long-term war. The Terrorists outnumber them by 1,000 to 1, and would undoubtedly wear them down if granted the time they so desperately cry for. The Jewish nation allowed (for lack of a better word) one holocaust to happen in the 30's and 40's of the 20th Century... and they're not ABOUT to sit back and let these DIRTBAGS who hit innocent people, then use their own innocents as shields to get away with it. I don't blame them ONE LITTLE BIT.
Had the United States NOT nuked "innocent civilian" targets like Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, in Japan, and carpet bombed German cities MERCILESSLY (like Hamburg--which had MORE deaths than either of the nuked cities of Japan)... it's quite possible that we'd be speaking German or Japanese today, and saluting a Fuehrer. Sherman put it best: "WAR IS HELL"... but unless you go after the enemy, ruthlessly, and do what you have to do to bring about a quick end, in which, sadly, some innocents WILL get caught up, then you truly CONDEMN a LOT more innocent people to a protracted conflict that will go on for more decades of PC back and forth BS, while more and more "innocent" civillians die. The problem is that the Israelis have FAR less innocents to expend than do the horrible terrorists they are surrounded by. Their only "advantage" is that they have a superb military, and are notoriously reputed for the fact that they WILL strike, and strike HARD at anyone truly threatening them any more.
The days of Israel sitting back and just watching their population be decimated by a truly EVIL organization/state, hell bent on real genocide... are gone. If the Arab states around Israel push this too far---it will get ugly.... VERY ugly... and those Arab states just might find out they've bitten off a LOT more than they can chew--as they did in the now legendary "Six-Day War" in which Israel literally kicked the butts of every one of their hostile neighbors in record time.
No more genocide in the Middle East... Israel is sending out a flare declaring LOUD and CLEAR: "We just Ain't gonna take it any more!" and I think it's high-time they do. I DEEPLY regret innocet victims on EITHER side; but I equally have enough of an understanding of war to know.. **** happens, and when you fight, if you intend to win, you have to worry about tending the needs of the innocent AFTER you've achieved objective #1... and that's winning the war.
I dearly hope and pray that Israel survives what will almost assuredly be yet another onslaught of terrorist war waged against the ONLY democracy (and TRUE US ally) in the Middle East. As far as Syria is concerned--they can ...(fill in the appropriate expletives)
Shalom! In it's proper time.
(And no, I'm not Jewish--but I DO know who's on the right in this conflict!)

for once we agree on something, A2K
See, Derek, anything's possible!

I understand that Isreal needs to do something to defend themselves but, they are being seen as the Military Bullies in this situation.
Yes, they are, SouthFloridawx; BECAUSE of the MEDIA! Now I'm going to try my very BEST to avoid getting into the "no-man's-land" here; but the bottom line is that the media (ESPECIALLY CNN IMO) is notorious for using the scenes they want, and pummeling the people with these scenes over and over again. This is why I NEVER watch CNN. Why aren't you seeing pictures of the countless missiles that Hezbollah has lobbed into Israel? Why aren't you seeing the grieving family of that grandmother and a four year old child murdered by one of these wanton "lobs" into Israeli territory by these terrorists? Does "selective reporting" come to mind? Well it does for me. There are literally thousands of Israelis also being forced from their houses/homes, and the Hezbollah missiles keep coming in--but the reporting of this is scant at best. Well I agree with the Israeli woman that I saw on Fox news which AT LEAST gives both sides (IMO), when she said that she wonders how some of the peaceniks over here in the US would feel if the missiles would be getting lobbed into Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, and/or New York? Do you REALLY think we'd sit back and worry about what other people think about us? Because if we start getting that "worried" about image when someone is clearly trying to wipe us out... then we are indeed in trouble.
I don't like seeing innocent people getting killed either; but when I see a particular network showing me just about all the Lebanese civilians, and becoming a mouthpiece for all the Lebanese/Hezbollah viewpoint... well, I have no use for their brand of reporting. There IS another side of this.. and it's that Israel is also being attacked and I fully concur with their right to kick the living crap out the scum that just won't let them live in peace.

I'm not trying to start something here, but that's about all that's been on CNN all week. Since you don't watch CNN, you wouldn't know. CNN, MSNBC, and FNC are all treating this story identically. It is consistently being reported as "Israel's Response."

Plus, they have been aiding the insurgents in Iraq, killing out soldiers. Iran is as much if not more of our problem than they are Israel's
That's really an insult to Israel. They are attempting to prevent their own annhilation. We're not. This was THEIR problem first and is a much bigger problem for them. The US, so far, is uninterested in becoming involved in this, thank goodness.

How one presents "Israel's Response" can be remarkably contrasting. You have a valid point about "me" not watching CNN; but I've read the reports in this thread from CNN, and had talked last night with a friend who's been watching their reporting, and has told me that their presentation usually has an "anti-Israel" slant. I concede this is second hand information as I'd written off CNN as one of the most biased news agencies a long time ago (MY opinion), but I trust the source.

Iran is in a strong position thanks to the southern shias being freed in Iraq and they know it. They know that if we try to take them out we won't be able to afford the economic blowback. There are also lots of innocents in Iran just like there are and were in Iraq.
