The skinny on skinny-A Perspective

#1 Postby NBCintern » Wed Jul 19, 2006 11:30 am

Today's celeb's and dreamy clothing lines will make any person want to shed off 1,000 pounds to fit into one. However, do you really want to become skull and bones? Not hardly, while a good portion of the American population does inspire to want to be thinner than what they are, their is a growing movement that thicker is good. The clothing industry has taken notice and are now using thicker woman and men to model their new lines. While is it undoubtedly a problem, then entertainment industry must share a good portion of the blame. Many a youth look up to celeb's for inspiration. While the need to look thin is an obsessive behavior, it is not a redeeming look that will pay-off at the end. We have to look at today's society and tell ourselves that it is okay to be ourselves. No one wants to be with a skeleton, nor do they want to consort with someone who looks like they dying of starvation. We must embrace today's thickness with the notion that it is okay to be thick and healthy. WHAT IS YOUR THINKING ON THIS? WHO IS AT FAULT FOR PERSONIFYING THIS LOOK? Quite frankly, it is just plain nasty to look at celeb's and see them wasting away and for what?

You know I just think it is a cycle we go thru just as fashion recycles itself. We had Twiggy in the 60's and everyone wanted to be skinny. I truly believe that the fashion industry perpetuate this cycle of thick and thin.

I am not for super thin, but it is a known fact that being quite overweight can cause diabetes and heart problems. I think 120-130 is a good size for a woman, healthy too.

Janice it really depends on the height and frame size of the woman.

It sure does, my gf looks like she weighs 120, but her bones are dense she really weights 160 and it's healthy for her! My dr told me my ideal weight should be 150, anything less than that and I'm looking at sickness and hospital stays. Can't throw all women in the same weight group.

On the other hand my other GF weighs 98 pounds and it's healthy for her...go figure!
