Favorite Vacation Spots
I thought this would be a good place to get ideas on some different vacation spots. When I go to the beach I love going to Destin/Fort Walton Beach, but I am looking at Anna Maria Island,FL for next year. When I want to go to like an urban city I like going to Washington,DC and New York City. So, where do ya'll like to go?

One thing I've noticed is everyone or each family seems to have their vacation style down after a few vacations. For us, we went south one summer, north the next. Florida, Canada, Florida or N or S Carolina, East Coast, etc. That was our usual mode for a while. Now we're paying college tuition so our vacations have to be more practical or none at all (last summer). That said, no matter where we are, there has to be water. Hubby is into boating, in one form or other (rental, looking, etc.). We just always seem to end up at a marina, somewhere, somehow for lunch or dinner. And then my daughters and I chuckle - there goes dad again, wondering what if or playing the someday game. FYI, we don't own a boat but he'd like to again. I guess what I'm trying to say is over the years I've noticed so many types of vacationing families - they might insist on flying, or as in our case, we prefer to drive (much to our daughters dismay), we've never taken a plane trip, always driving. I knew a family that traveled to state park lodges and that was their style. My family just groans b/c I've dragged them to a few places like that and boy do I have to hear about it! Then you have families like my next door neighbors, they must budget in a lot for vacations, they only stay at upscale resorts, they have someone move into their home to watch their dog, each family member has to have 4 swimsuits (why, I don't know!), the wife carries on about how stressful it is to pack for a vacation. I just want to scream - buy one swim suit for everyone, wear it damp the next day - gasp - bring one or two pairs of shoes per person, pack for 4 days, not 7, do laundry half way thru....you get the picture.
I remember back to when our girls were quite young, I thought they were too little to travel and wouldn't behave in the car. They surprised me, they got into it. Sure they fought but these vacations still bring back fond memories.
One type of vacation we've never been able to swing is to stay at an all inclusive, upscale resort hotel. Our oldest daughter still complains about not being to do that! I just have to laugh. I jokingly say someday maybe you will be able to take a trip like that. We prefer driving, renting a condo for the week and eating out one meal a day. Eating in the other two - boring she says.
Then again, sometimes I think a vacation at home would be nice but I know we'd be bothered by in town relatives. We'd get nothing done around here!
I'm done......vacations are great and they come in all sorts of shapes, budgets/sizes.

- Location: Galveston, oh Galveston (And yeah, it's a barrier island. Wanna make something of it?)
I'm with Sunny -- love to see that mouse!
Of course, living here in Galveston, we don't have to go far for a lot of "vacation"-type stuff to see and do. Just a weekend at home can be filled with anything from going to historical sites or museums, jetskiing out in the Gulf, or partying at any number of events down on the Strand from Dickens to Mardi Gras to the Lone Star Bike Rally.
The saying this year is "When we stay here, it's called a vacation. When we leave, it's called an evacuation."

In the United States, nothing beats the Northeast in the Autumn!
As for the rest of the world, Sharm el Sheikh was very nice except for the constant pestering of the street vendors. My favorite places to visit in Europe are Heidelberg, Germany and Strasbourg, France. Both beautiful cities with lots of history behind them.
