Hi, everyone. My Grandmother is having major surgery next week and is devoutly Catholic. I would like to get her a beautiful, meaningful rosary, but am unsure of the meaning of the stones.
After extensive searches, I can't seem to find anything reliable as far as gemstones and their meanings. I even found a Vatican site (selling rosaries) with spelling errors. Can't take that seriously, obviously. What are the odds that anyone on these boards can help me with this?
This is very important to me. I know this is, potentially, a touchy subject and do not wish to stir up any religious debate. I simply want to help my wonderful, loving Grandmother recover and maintain her health. I believe in gemstones and their powers, and am hoping someone reading this can give me some input, as I practice a different religion than she.
Thank you.
Any Catholics out there? (Gemstones)

Try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosary
It can explain a lot faster than I could type it out. Go to the section "Rosary beads" for a bit of an explanation about some of the types of beads you might find. As far as "gemstones," I'm not sure there are rosaries with gemstones. Do you mean precious stones like diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and such? I've only seen beads made of silver, ivory, wood, cloisonne, plastic, and the most unique ones I bought in Mexico, rose pedals pressed and rolled into beads. I kept those in a small suede pouch and they never lost their scent. Those were very beautiful.
I'm sure the type of beads won't be as meaningful to her as your thoughtfulness, love, and respect of her faith.
I hope that helps!
Actually, now that I've thought about it -- do you actually mean the true "meanings" in each of the beads, as in what to say at each bead...how to pray a Rosary? This site might help more in that regard: http://www.rosary-center.org/howto.htm

Try this site. I bought my hubby a rosary from them a year or so ago.
They also have a lot of info on their site.

Here is another web site for you that my Mother-in-Law gets their catalog and it has all kinds of things in it. Don't know if it is what you need specifically but it is full of stuff for Catholics!
