What is the best Hurricane Katrina video?
i am looking to get the best Hurricane Katrina video out there. Does anyone have a opinion on which one that would be please?
It can be free or not. I know there are several not free ones and I am sure those are the best but which one is the best?
I don't want to get them all because that would be wasteful.
Maybe someone who already has one or another can help tell me how the one they got that way I can compare them.

Thanks already seen thoses.
I want footage from all around Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina and when the levees broke the wall of water that is coming toward them. I want to see how powerful and fast it moved when the drowning of N.O. began in the 9th ward, lakeview, etc.
I want to see as the wall of water from the 17th street canal comes toward the houses as well. To see how powerful the water was as it started coming toward them.

True but maybe someone has it on video don't you think ? There so many people in the world I bet someone has it that went that day because either their thrill seekers, storm chasers, or just like chasing hurricanes. Wouldn't you agree?

I doubt there's any film of that. The only thing I can offer is that it wasn't much of a "wall" once you were a few blocks away. My cousin, who is an NOPD officer, was patroling Lakeview at the time. He knew what had happened, and along with a few other lucky residents, got out and onto I-10 before the water got too deep to drive through. He guessed the water was rising a coupe inches per minute. If you do find anything, let me know.

Yeah but what about when that larger chuck of the 17th street canal broke ? It made the water come in even more quickly which made it even worst.
What about all the other levees that broke in southeast LA? 9th ward, etc.

The only known footage of the 17th Street canal levee failure is video that was taken by a crew of the NOFD. They were holed up in a highrise condo on the lakefront. They noticed the waters rising and rushed to an upper floor to try to find out what had happened. From there, they could see the water pouring through the levee wall. Channel 4 in New Orleans had a story on the video. Go to wwltv.com and do a search. They should still have it archived.
The levee wall failure that inundated the 9th ward and killed hundreds has no video evidence that I'm aware of. That breach happened with much more force, completely wiping out an entire neighborhood. If it was captured on film, I can guarantee you that both the photographer and the film were lost to the floodwaters.
The MRGO levee obliteration was not, to my knowlege, captured on film. However, this failure, coupled with the Industrial canal levee wall failure inundated St. Bernard Parish. A crew of parish workers and media were holed up in the parish government building, where another lenghthy film was recorded, showing the water rising incredibly fast and actually breaking in the doors of the facility. This film is out there somewhere. You may be able to find it on Google videos. Good luck.

Re: Wanting Katrina video clips.
Max:
I too would like to have been able to see images of the storm surge as it came crashing into my MS gulf coastline but like most of us that could; I got out of Dodge City on Sunday afternoon; August 28th with my father and we headed 75 miles N and checked ourselves into a Best Western Hotel where I and many others simply thought we'd just ride Katrina out; go back home in a day or so; boy were we wrong.
With all of the destruction I'd like to know how it was possible that our Biloxi lighthouse managed to survive; so did the lighthouse at the Broadwater Marina. The marina is all gone but that lonely lighthouse at the end of the marina still stands. The Biloxi lighthouse would have been the place to be to film footage of Katrina's storm surge had it been safe.
Our mayor and his family rode out Katrina in City Hall just blocks from the beach although he did ride it out on a higher floor. If you want to see some video footage of that storm surge; the city of Biloxi at one time did have video clips of the surge; video clips which were later put together to make a DVD on Katrina in Biloxi. Copies are on sale at our local Wal-Mart stores or you can purchase one through the city's website still I think.

Actually, there is a guy that was at the Michoud facility out by the Paris Rd. Bridge who caught a lot of it on film...a lot of single pics, but from what I'd heard he has video a well, and you can see that water literally overtopping the MRGO, while the wind is howling... I'm not sure of the guy's name... seem to think it's Don something or other... again WWL had a special with him for a while. Anyway, I know there are pictures of water overtopping the MRGO around, one of the main reasons people want that governmental/big business death trap closed.

Of course I haven't reviewed all of those; but I watched the 5 min. trailer on the one about its impact on New Orleans. That is interesting because of the enormous impact it would have; but I'd have to say that I'm most intrigued by the video that appears to be taken from Empire, La. That area is in the southern reaches of Plaquemines Parish, and can't be very far from direct, first landfall.
Might have to look into that one further myself.

I did find out this much:
The guy's name was Don McClosky, he was the manager of Entergy's Michoud Plant, and has taken home video as well as stills.... and that there was a "gallery" of his pics on the WWL site... you could search there--or perhaps you might want to check with Entergy to see if there's a way to find Mr. McClosky and/or obtain a copy of his video...
I don't know that any of that will work; but those are some suggestions.

It was not like one big wave................. hurricanetrack.com by Mark Sudduth (see the link on the Home page here) has an amazing video of the water on Highway 49 in Gulfport and of the wind. He lost all his cameras on the beach and the one on Highway 49. It was streaming video for a while until it was washed away. From what I understand from the people that survived here in Pascagoula on the beach, well actually one street back and from what I saw myself approximately two miles away, it was just wave after wave after wave with the water getting higher and higher each time. It's not like a Tsunami that sucks all the water out and then pushes it on shore in one huge wave like you see on TV, that is not what happened.

Exactly; and that's how McClosky described it in his interview... just streams of waves, one after the other, the next, perhaps a bit higher than the previous--but a train of endlessly increasing waves and tide surging forward.
