You know just because there is dry air now, doesn't mean it will stick around forever. And on a seperate note; How many times has the ITCZ formed into a TC.

And we don't really need a Cape Verde storm for the season to be destructive.

Indeed. If what just came off the African coast holds up (see http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=87487 ), we might be seeing the true opening salvo to the CV season.

Here's a good shot of what just rolled off of Africa, along with 2 more large waves over Africa. The 2nd one (farther to the east over Africa) even looks to have a little "swirl" to it.

It's still too far from DR to say for sure if this system will impact the Dominican Republic directly.But stay tuned here as all the information will be available for you.

Last year didn't have much of a cape verde season either and look how it turned out.
