travel time for CV storms?

#1 Postby plazaglass » Mon Jul 31, 2006 10:07 am

Can anyone tell me or tell me where to look to find historical information on the average number of days elapsed from the time a CV storm has left the African coast to the time it made landfall on North America?

I think usually it takes at least 2 weeks.

Depends on how fast it moves. If it takes a path to Florida...and is moving at 15 knots...about 12 days. If it moves at 20 knots at some points...it will take about 10 days. But...chances are it will slow at some point...so the answer is usually 10 days to 2 weeks.

IIRC the ball park figure used for tracking a wave across the ATLC was 5-6 degrees/day. (this figure assumes a movement of 270-275) I've seen some move even faster.
